    2nd wiped Camshaft OMC 460

Check for adequate oil supply, use priming tool to run oil pump with valve covers and intake off. You say the lift is more - did you check for valve seal to retainer clearance? When you replaced the seals were the valve guides remachined for the seal used if a more modern positive seal was...

Trouble identifying piston - OMC 5.7

The .030 means the block was bored .030 inch overbore. Thats the common US engine rebuild over bore. look for the pistons at a US supplier like Summit Racing . What happened to the one piston? it is unusual to replace just one.

    OMC to Mercruiser!

The only thing youd keep that isnt mercruiser specific is the longblock and intake manifold. All the other components are specific to the obsolete omc stringer set up you want to get rid of.

    OMC to Mercruiser!

You can slap a 3.0 drive on a 5.7 but tge drive ratio is way different. The flywheel cover is tge same 3.0, 4.3, and 5.7 . issue bondo was pointing out if you get a 3.0 donor and try to piece a 5.7 in front of it you will be missing a lot of parts like exhust manifolds/wye pipe/elbows etc...

    OMC to Mercruiser!

The stringer uses a larger transom hole than the cobra and alpha drives, you will have to fill that in so you have something to mount it to.

    Correct carb?

Here is a link to the tuning guide. https://edelbrock-instructions-v1.s3.amazonaws.com/edelbrock/carb-tuning-guide.pdf On 5.7 you’d probably be best to go back to the factory calibration as a starting point. worked pretty good when i swaped in 5.0 in my boat. Really just needed a bigger...

    Bravo 3 Drive Showers

Necessary no, especially for use you outline. the only time i have noticed needed one is when towing skiiers for like an hour straight, low pitch prop, glass smooth day so we had nice long runs. I was surprised how hot the upper was when climbing back in the boat. This biat was 35 yrs old when i...

Alpha 1 clattering noise behind prop???

Yeah it is like 90 degrees of rotation. its also easy to bend the bronze shift fork if you jam the drive back in when they are not aligned and in fwd... unfortunately speaking from experince , and yes its about a $100 part...

Alpha 1 gen 2 oil in bellows

Yeah you don't need the grease seal, especially with a permalube bearing. The one reason many applications went to lubed for life is that folks tend to over grease the bearing. When grease gets built up on the bearing too much from repeated greasings, the bearing cant give off heat and cangettoo...

    Thunderbolt IV spark loss

you may want to look on ebay for used modules. I bought two (one for a spare) for like $200 each the only other thing i would think to verify is under load do you still have 12 v at the coil ? Do you have corrosion in the harness or at the cannon plug that your losing voltage under load like...

2011 New 3.0 MFI with no spark mystery

I like the comment on disconnecting the tach, look at the shift interrupt as well (Im assuming alpha drives ?) . Also maybe take the distributor cap off and crank it to verify the distributor does spin on the off chance the cam or geardrive is messed up.

Bent Transom on Lowe FS175, HELP!

The best way to verify there is no wood is to call lowe directly, otherwise from two different people you will get three different answers... the .100” is the thickness of the aluminum sheet not the transom thickness...there will be areas where it is reinforced with bent up aluminum making a...

Bent Transom on Lowe FS175, HELP!

I dont think it is an issue as long as the wood if there is any inside the transom or what ever structural items are intact. on a welded hull it would not surprise me if there were areas where there is moderate distortion from welding. Materials like aluminum and stainless tend to warp when...

1988 Merc 5.0XL with alpha drives engine replacement suggestions

I think that would be pretty goofy to run. I would think They would need to run different rpms to match power so it doesnt push the boat into a turn. still not sure what your original question was. If you are looking for pricing on the engine michigan motorz has reman and new options

Buying a boat with a rebuilt sterndrive??

If you like the boat and think its a good price go for it. properly done a rebuild is just as good as a new engine. If its been five years and hasn't had issues id think you are ok. If the boat is kept up and clean this is a sign it was taken care of and don’t worry about the hours. My last boat...

1988 Merc 5.0XL with alpha drives engine replacement suggestions

not sure exactly what question you are asking. Are u trying to determine what you should pay off season for a turn key? Are you asking who you should look to for engines? also agree swap in a pair of 5.7s

Overhauling my 1988 MerCruiser 4.3 ltr. engine

No such carb as an MCM 175 is think that is the engine model (HP=175). There is a carb number stamped just below the fuel inlet. That looks like a mercarb with a single (vs dual on a rochester 2 jet) mixture screws. By the looks of the hardware store scews and washers on the choke element some...

    Alpha1 Gen 2 Gimbal Bearing

I use the oem ones (sealed)seem to last real well. Biggest issue is keeping water out. Haven’t changed a whole lot (2) of them so it’s not like I have a huge data set... just the sealed ones I’ve put in I have yet to replace ...
