    The factory flywheel key locates the flywheel for proper ignition spark and timing.-----The flywheel is driven by the locking tapers.------Tapers can be lapped together for proper fit.------Assemble clean and dry.----Torque the nut.

    No surprise to me that it is a new purchase.-----Post your compression numbers.-----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on all leads.-----Clean carburetors.-----Test oil injection system if equipped with that.-----Change water pump impeller before your first launch.

    Was the lower unit off for water pump work ?-----It should have had a new impeller installed if you did piston work.

    It would be a temperature sensor.-----You can disconnect it for a test.

    There is no check valve.-----But You can not blow into the bottom fitting.-----Fill the hose with oil and see if it drains down.-----Or start the motor and see if oil spits out.

    Remove lower rear cowling.--Remove small cover on side of outer exhaust housing.--Find the connecters on shift wires at the motor.---Seperate shift wires and attach a " fish ".------Remove small cover that wires go through.-----Remove 7 bolts that hold lower unit on.----

    Check the shift switch on the motor.-----Or use a timing light when test running.-----One cylinder at a time to see if there are spark issues.-----You are sure it is an overheat or perhaps a fuel restriction.----?-----Did you not install a new impeller in the water pump?----Your location ?

    Correct on your 25 HP you would still have great spark, but at the wrong time.----Hard starting ?----Explain how you use that primer unit / pump on the motor.----Not the same as the primer bulb on the hose.
