    The ridges were always on the magneto plate as far as I know.------Yes the 3 , 5.5 , 7.5 , 10 and 18 had an access hole for maintaining the points.-----Great stuff and simple.-----But folks today do not want motors that you have to work on.-----They want " pull the rope / turn the key and go !

    A FORCE outboard mounted inside the hull.-----Apparently they won awards with this gimmick.-----Has not proved popular !!

    The L-drive may be a long term headache.----In my opinion you might get rid of it , sooner the better.

    Put the nut back on.-----Put a wedge between the nut and clutch dog.----Give propshaft a bump with a rubber mallet.

    This should be simple.----Shift and throttle cables are the same.----And the same length on that motor.

    I have seen that hole plugged.-----But it is the air intake for the hot air choke.-----There is a wee heat exchanger inside the exhaust covers.

    If it did not work , motor would be hard to start.----If it was stuck open motor would flood / run rough.

    The rod is all bent.----Straighten it first or get a new one.-----Hooks to the recoil starter interlock.

    I believe you should have a look at the transom.------Perhaps it is full of rotten plywood.-----Repair and build it up to 20" again and use a long shaft ( 20" ) motor.
