    The 1988 model does show that it has S.L.O.W. feature.------Likely the first year for that.

    Likely it will need to be bored and honed , then oversize pistons / ring fitted.----Not hard if you have some basic nuts and bolts knowledge.------3 piston kits at $150 each.----Boring / honing at $80 each hole.----Gasket set at $100.-----Might consider water pump kit $100 and lower unit seal...

    Are you sure an 88 model has the S.L.O.W. feature ?------Start with a compression test and post your values.

    It is simple to fix in my opinion.----Done many of these 3 cylinder motors.-----Take it apart.----Inspect everything and then come up with a plan.

    Post #8 asked you to post compression values.-----Now you know why that is the first step in trouble shooting.----I would just take the motor apart for a simple rebuild.-----Not sure if you can find a shop out in BC to do that work.

    Some will argue all day long.-----Using the meter will get you the strongest spark at the right time..-----Learned how to do that over 50 years ago at a Johnson dealer.-----That shop is still in business today !

    That motor will rev up on neutral running on one cylinder !!-----So that statement means nothing.-----Motors in neutral do not have to do any WORK.-----There are some pieces missing on that arm.----Where that white plastic bushing is.

    Are you sure that a 1989 60 HP model has the S.L.O.W. feature ?----Post the compression test vaoues.----Does tell tale hose / fitting come off the side of the block or the top ?

    No it can not.-----That motor does not use 12 volts from the battery to make spark at the sparkplugs !

    Each carburetor feeds 2 cylinders.-----Top carburetor feeds #1 and 2 only , right from idle to full throttle..---Each cylinder has it's own sealed crankcase.-----Air that goes in the bottom carburetor can not find it's way to the #1 and 2 cylinders !

    Your location ?-----Correct , the cost of labor makes rebuilding a thing of the past at many shops.-----Saw 2 of the 6 cylinder towers at a shop a few weeks ago.----Might be available cheap for parts.

    Fuel pumps operate with a + PRESSURE pulse.-----Would your mechanic be referring to a " labarynth " seal?-----Or perhaps bottom crankshaft seals ?

    Fuel filter was mounted there on some 22 cubic inch models.

    I believe the difference is in the propshaft seal.-----So find the number on your seal then cross reference to the kit.

    Does the hose / fitting for the tell tale come off the side of the block ?----Or was it moved to the top as per a service bulletin that came out in 1994 ?

    BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

    There are those people who can afford this stuff.-----Electronics on these things will alarm and say.-------" 1 mile of range left and you are 3/4 of a mile from the dock"----New stuff sells.
