    Popping noise when use trim

Agree, no grease fitting Guess Merc figures it doesn't need them. The bearings are hanging and the pop is when it releases.

    Popping noise when use trim

Don't know your serial number but I'm seeing a grease fitting on serial numbers 1B690542 and up. It not being there wonder if it was a manufacture defect and may be covered under warranty. https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/32324/15142/230

Not enough info on the CAT motors. Maybe @Fun Times or @Nashville might have some ideas. I'm finding the codes but its showing up as coil driver open/closed

    Ford closed cool TS Housing

Member @Jakem has a 1975 Ford 289 with closed cooling. The short of the story is its not plumbed like it should and does not have a bypass hole in the thermostat housing. Without the bypass there is not enough flow. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/overheating.745111/ Need a housing that...

1998 digital ignition 5.7 carbureted taking flat when at 165F

I buy parts from who ever has the best price. Start with the part number then search So far as motor oil and filter, pick any good oil. Many use 15W40 diesel oil, but 10W40 or straight 40W is good. Same goes for filters, I use WIX Drive lube I do use Mercruiser

    5.7 fuel issue ( I think)

Agree, think your running out of fuel. Fuel pressure, weak pump, antisiphone valve, other fuel line restriction or tank vent restriction. As zeller mention start with the easy part, remove the gas cap and see if it comes back to doing ok. If not, then get a gauge on the fuel line between...

Volvo penta 5.0 gl not sucking water

Don't do this ever. The thermostat opens and closes with temp. Once warmed up it "does NOT" stay open. Soon as cooler water comes in contact it closes back off. You will "never" replace all the water with pure AF. Drain fully and your now winterized. After that it you want to add AF for...

    Overheating

Trying to figure something out, but tell me does the current thermostat housing have a by pass hole in it? I'm thinking if it does we might get away with fixing it like a GM 305

    Overheating

Normally the small hose coming from the pump goes to the Man's for main cooling. There is also a small opening to allow AF to bypass the thermostat (TS) so air can escape along with allowing a small amount to pass With no connection to the TS other then the 2 hoses going to the Mans, would...

Was hoping if you were in fresh I would suggest removing the HX, but ok back to the problem Can you sketch up a drawing of the hose routing's. Could use the one I posted above and just indicate where its different

Tach at 0 when cranking 5.0 MPI

Might just need a new tach or maybe corrosion on the wire or connection The 300 rpm is if its cranking and does not start. The ECM sees what the distributor is doing in milliseconds. So if it sees it firing and pulses the injectors before Tach will react so you can see

    Overheating

Water isn't circulating and sounds like a head gasket leak. Use an IR temp gun or put your hand on top the thermostat housing. If the housing isn't hot then the thermostat is closed. If it is hot, are any of the hoses coming out of the housing warm/hot? BTW are you in salt water?

1998 digital ignition 5.7 carbureted taking flat when at 165F

0L058689 comes back as TBI so no carb Yes, your running rich The ECM controls fuel flow by info from the MAP and TPS. Need to start by checking fuel pressure. There is a plug (item 3) that can be removed to attach a gauge https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31844/2704/110
