    ???----Just take the lower apart and re-assemble.-----Use grease to hold the yoke in place.----Be less work risk than drilling out a drain plug hole !!!

    Evinrude 1973 boat motor runs while out of the water but not in the water.

    #1 and #3 were both hot.-----This motor needs a compression test done first.-----Or inspection as already stated.-----If pistons are loose / rings bad it will not generate enuff crankcase compression to start when submerged.---Simple as that.

    Lotions a potions do not help. ----A bump with a hefty hammer is needed.----Or tighten the three screws a bit more till it pops.-----The locking tapers are holding it.

    Lower unit can be changed.----But you have to take both apart to swap the driveshaft.

    Remove the 3 bypass covers on side of block and have a look at pistons / rings.----There are no gaskets that can cause loss of compression.-----Do not run this motor if there are compression issues !----Just finished assembling one of those motors.

    On some of the later inline 6 motors you may only need one of those ring compressors.------Rod bolts are different compared to earlier models.

    Penetrating oil / heat are NOT required.-------You have to give the center bolt a bump with a hefty hammer to pop flywheel off the locking tapers !

    You need a total of 4 of those for your motor,.----The regulate an amount of air.----Need a total of 12 jets for your 2 carburetors.-----And 8 are calibrated for fuel flow , 4 are calibrated for air flow.

    The 70 HP of 1985 and older was 49 / 50 cubic inches.------The V-4 is 99 / 100 cubic inches.------Amazing power if in good condition.
