    Is this the 4 cylinder based on the 460 cube Ford big block.------There are many who would say find something better to put into the boat.

    24:1 was the ratio when new in 55.----Last year of those green ones.-----Check for loose wristpin bushings.---Also a common issue with them.------Today there have been many lively discussions about the mixture you can run with modern oils.-----No need to go into that again.

    You dial in the lower one ( high speed ) first for best operation.----Then slow motor to idle and adjust the upper one ( idle mixture ) for best idle and smooth acceleration.

    When you operate the button on the tank it fill the carburetor with fuel.-----When motor starts it quickly pumps air into the tank.-----That pressure keeps fuel flowing.-----Does spark jump a gap of at least 1/4" on a test device ??.-----Have you looked at the coils through the inspection port...

    You should not have to grind or modify the retainer plate 321174.-----The retainer plate goes in BEFORE the 2 snap rings go in.

    In my opinion the starter is easy to check.------Perhaps that was a " modern mechanic " who is on a bonus program say 2% of parts sold.---Not sure how to test these components either.----No sensitivity to customers wallet at all.

    90 HP main bearing oil supply

    It is a big $$ check valve.----It is part of oil recirculation system..----Just replaced one on a 1993 V-4 rebuild this spring.

    It is running too lean on low speed mixture or throttle plate is opening too early.----Try moving the stop ( item 71 ) on that thin rod at the back of it.
