    Step #1 is to make sure the upper and lower shift rods are assemble correctly at the brass connecter.----What does oil in lower unit look like.-----Rubber hub in propeller could be slipping.----Keep using it and repairs will just cost more.

    ??????--Use the winch to pull boat backwards on the trailer !!------Or you tie the boat to a hefty tree or similar.----Pull the trailer forward 18" or so.----Now you have room to block it up.

    Small bet on item #9 being the overheat sensor.-----Grounds to the block to sound overheat horn.

    That magneto does not need 12 volts at all.------So remove the bottom part of the magneto.----Those 4 bolts ( 3/8" wrench ) and inspect.--Remove cap and rotor carefully.------Usually cleaning breaker points and setting at 0.008 / 0.010" does the trick.----Test for spark before installing it on...

    Every thing you did , and mention points to and indicates that something is wrong with the metal bits inside the motor.-----Up to you to open a tool box and figure it out !

    Those are a sweet running motor.------Install a new impeller for water pump now.-----A big 35 gallon plastic garbage can makes a good test bucket.
