    Liquids need heat when evaporating.----Reeds valves are constantly washed by incoming fresh fuel.----You might say they stay cold during engine operation.----Hot exhaust does not come anywhere near the reed valves.

    How would the 3.5 HP work in high winds ( sudden squall ) or in 6' ( 2 meter waves ) as you might find on Lake Michigan ?

    With cold fuel / air mix going through them it is hard for me to accept that reeds will warm up. ----Total engine tear down in order to inspect / replace reeds.-----Unless dirt got in them ( mouse nest / seagull feathers ) the reeds will not be the issue.----Or if motor was propped wrong , then...

    I state clear facts.----Encourage folks to do simple trouble shooting !-----Some folks can not accept that they have to do a bit of work.----If you know nothing about motors than a new motor is in your future.-----All you have to do is turn the key.

    Carbs seem stuck at w.o.t.

    But-----You have to make sure that carburetors are clean and have no blockages.------Remember that on this 2 stroke motor the carburetors are also the oil pump.----A blocked high speed jet might do internal damage to one cylinder.

    You must install a new water pump impeller first.------This motor does not have an overheat horn or a shut down system.----It would run till it is too late.----Have one just like it in the back of my truck.----Tried to sell it at last swap meet but no takers.

    The clutch dog is spring loaded.-----If you took it apart in neutral it likely jumped into forward when you answered your phone.--------So remove lower unit.-----Put lower unit into neutral and control in neutral.----Assemble.-----Or have lower unit in forward and control in forward and assemble...
