    Checked the flywheel key ?-----Was water pump maintained ?-----I would pull the exhaust cover ( side of the block ) and look at pistons and rings.-----Compression at 87 PSI is not encouraging.

    There is no such thing as a perfect outboard.----Just some that are perfect for you.-----An air cooled motor like that would not be my first choice.-----I go with OMC models 5.5 / 7.5 / 10 hp as I know them inside and out.----Have all the parts for them.

    When I started repairing motors in 1968 the magneto plate moved with the action of the throttle on the tiller handle.----That is how the ignition timing advances.

    If post #46 shows your motor there is no thermostat shown !!----It does have a temperature switch and a wise owner would test and see if there is a warning horn.-----If none is found install one !

    The Sears 3.5 HP just an air cooled noisy " ESKA " or perhaps a McColough motor .-----Not high on the hit parade.----Not worth much.

    Do not start adjusting anything with the ---" lets see what happens "--- approach.----- If maximum timing advance is not correct you can do serious damage.-----Best to clean the carburetors first.----When you remove carburetor bowl drain plugs , do you see a green film on the end ?

    Throttle butterflies or the choke butterflies are closed ??-----Or is the plate under the flywheel ( ignition advance ) stuck at full advance ?----Is it up against the rubber bumper ??

    I do not believe there is a switch that stops the trim motor at the fully down position.---There is a switch to limit how high the motor trims.----Needed on some boats to prevent damage to motor cowling and boat.

    I doubt you will find a thermostat on this 75 HP 4 cylinder motor.

    But someone on a limited budget can buy a used ICE vehicle and do any repairs / rebuilding.------I am not sure that you can repair a $20,000 + battery.----Or find a used battery for an EV vehicle.
