    High RPM surge driving me nuts!!!

    At idle the throttle plates are to be CLOSED.-----Idle speed is then controlled by timing.-----So there is usually a gap there.-----Do not start adjusting things unless you are absolutely sure that some thing is wrong.

    Reed valves rarely cause problems.----And reed valves have nothing to do with the perceived low compression in the cylinders.

    Well---Why would you suspect reed valve issues ???----I do not believe it is the reed valves at all.---Just put the tool box away and run this motor.

    Step #1 is a test with another gauge.------Those have a wee hole in the cylinder wall by design.----I do not believe there is anything wrong with your motor.------Write down your compression values.----Don't take this motor apart.

    Some clown was trying to use MERCURY outboard throttle / shift cables on your " big Johnson "-----So get the correct cables and the bracket to hold them in place !!!

    Driveshaft splines are the ones up top that go into the crankshaft.----You have to look up part numbers or take them apart to see if this will work !!
