    Are they 4 strokes.----Do you plan to keep the boat for a long time ?-----I would use composite material or a layer of carbon fiber in between FOUR sheets of 3/4" plywood.-----You are not limited to the original thickness on a transom !

    Remove plywood on the inside.-----Glue in new plywood with EPOXY.------Cover new plywood with fiberglass.,-----Cosmetic repair / filler on the outside.

    Big screen TV is thrown out because they were not engineered to be repaired.----So throw out a 40" one and get a new 60" one for less than $1000.-------Who is going to repair these electronic gadgets on 4 wheels.

    There is a high sulfur content in gear oil.----Might be the reason for the smell.

    Tank holds about 200 gallons or $1000 worth.----My home heating oil tank does not have a lock on it.-----Looked it up on google and locking devices are available.----Might make something as my cat does not bark any warning like the dogs used to.
