Help selecting prop. Currently no top end.

Thanks for the sn, its a TKS WOT rpm is what's needed for proper prop selection. Increase speed and trim up until rpm gets to max and speed is increasing. If trimming up starts loosing speed or does not increase speed then trim down for max with both speed and rpm. The load out of the boat...

Help selecting prop. Currently no top end.

Prop not in good shape can cause ventilation. If your tachometer is accurate (many are not) then even with a bad prop your not reaching WOT rpm (4400-4800). Your motor may have an issue and be down on power. Do you know the motor serial number?

    rolling torque wrench

To do rolling torque you need a dial and a needle which moves and will record max torque.

Mercruiser 4.3L pushes 2400# runabout only 36mph max

Use the prop slip calculator and plug in numbers to see what may happen. Note this is what "may" happen. I entered your info and left out the speed at WOT. Using 10% slip it calculates the WOT to 47.46 mph 10% is nominal and the boat should get less in the 7% area all trimmed correctly...

Mercruiser 4.3L pushes 2400# runabout only 36mph max

Using your numbers tells me the only reason your reaching 4400 and above rpm is because the prop is ventilating. I'm seeing 15 to 20 sum % slip and that boat is so light it shouldn't happen. So many folks slap on a 5 blade prop and actually loose performance. The boat probably came with a...

Bravo 1 transom u bolt size

I would suggest getting the OEM bolt because the threads are formed and not cut which makes it stronger. The issue with the OEM bolt is its really to small, but that is the size that fits. The bolt is torqued to 53 ft lb and that is the limit of the bolt. Here is a good read...

    QSD 4.2 + bravo = toast?

The B3 has been installed on heavy cruisers for some time. Will agree they are not as strong as the Knorad but the Bravo comes in 3 versions (standard, X and XR). My guess is yours would have a B3X. The change in the Bravo is all done in the upper section. Max HP is rated as 525 but the...

    Kill switch help

    1) forget the purple wire unless YOU figure out where its going and let us know 2) As racer said and I did in post 5, ground the blk/yel and motor dies My guess from your pic, is the kill switch connects the 2 dark colored wires (not the purple) together when lanyard is pulled

Starting an engine that's been sitting...

Your in the non-repair OB section Take a new fuel filter with ya and pour contents of the old filter into clear container. If its clear and not yellow, refill new filter and give it a run. There is no need IMO to put E0 gas into a tank with E10, and then add seafoam (more crud). If you want...

    Kill switch help

Agree, mentioned that previous My comment is from your comment about PO hacking the wiring, and the pic showing some tape. If the purple is original then I have nothing because I don't see how it would work on a kill switch. Maybe tracing where it goes may provide some insight

Volvo Penta GXi-E Low Power and 2 DTCs

Clocking the HVS (not hsv) can be done in a couple ways. 1) make sure cylinder 1 is at TDC and drop it in as shown 2) Other is make the device in the PDF file and clock it that way (starts on page 14)

    Kill switch help

Looks like wiring isn't original and maybe a purple wire was used because that was just the color the PO had. Can you trace where the purple goes to?

    Kill switch help

I'm not finding a purple wire connection with a 2 cycle kill switch. Find it with the Tach lead, sorry I'm unable to clarify. Found other threads with 3 wires but they where blk/yel and black only. I would not connect a purple to a ground, mainly because purple has always been 12V power...

    Tube Part Number??

As always its best to provide as much info of what your working on. Its in the Merc section and looks like a Merc housing, and assume its a Alpha and could be a MR but might be a Gen 2 With that, I don't know of Merc using a brass tube in that area, so my guess is its the brass end of the...
