    Leave it out.---Make sure float valve is clean.----Make sure hoses upstream from float valve are clean.-----Make sure float is in good shape.----Some hollow ones can fill up with fuel.

    So what is your exact measurement on the shift rod.-----I am not there to see , hear or feel your motor.------Or shall I say I recommend a teardown of the lower unit.-----In my opinion they are not as robust as older units.----You might save a lot of money catching a problem before the gears go...

    They are 19 cents at the local hardware store !!----Yes the driveshaft simply pulls out.----I have asked you to confirm that you have the 79 model 6 HP pump , but no reply on that.------I can not see your motor !

    Is the recoil properly timed ?-----Or find an electric start kit ( donor motor ) there are lots around.

    Really-----Why not pull the driveshaft out !------Look up the part # in the 79 model 6 HP parts listing.-----So does your motor have the 79 model 6 HP water pump ?----You seem reluctant in answering / providing information..----Not sure why you would have issues with a simple roll pin...

    Same gearcase , change out both upper and lower.-----.----Most shops would have the seal between the halves on a 50' roll.----Or buy an 0-ring and cut to make that seal !!

    Answer this question,-----Does your motor have the 79 model 6 HP pump installed , yes , no or no idea ?-----There is a special gasket ( 79 style pump ) and it goes between the pump housing and the plate !-----Time to stop and regroup I say.-----Fixing these simple pumps takes about 10 minutes !

    ?----Why are you changing plug wires ?-----What is your motor doing / not doing ?-----Some plug wires are threaded into the coil.
