    Are you giving it some throttle for cold starting ?---Are you pushing the key in WHILE cranking it over ?-----Lots of sparkplugs ??----Sounds like someone is guessing at what might be wrong.----Post your compression values.----And does spark jump a gap of 7/16" on a proper test device.

    This foam under the floor is a great idea for the builder of the boat.------Not a good idea for the owner of a 40 year old boat.-----I am doing a boat and the foam has been tossed.------Installed structural bits instead of the foam.------No foam going into the boat once done.

    More than likely it is normal.------Any pictures of these leaks ?

    1982 35 hp evinrude. Very hard to pull start when the spark plugs are in but when removed easy

    If starter won't crank it over then charge battery.----Load test battery.----Inspect cables.----Inspect starter motor armature and brushes.----If all that checks out there are issues with bearings on motor I say.

    These use a multi piece crankshaft.----Hard to fully inspect the main and big end bearings.-----I say a new or replacement motor is in the future.

    Fogging oil just goes inside the motor.----Does not cause problems with carburetion at all.

    If it was run without oil you may need a new crankshaft assembly at $1200 , 3 new pistons and machine work.-----If you have to pay a shop you are better off to to find another motor.

    So simple indeed.-----No reed valves on them either to make noise and get stuck open.

    I am rebuilding a 1959 model 5.5 HP.----There is no runner lipped seal on the top of crankshaft.-----It has a slinger.------Upper bushing might be worn on your motor.

    Take a good look at the fitting where hose attaches.-----One of the 4 screws might be marked ----DRAIN----Take screw out and turn tank upside down.----Those metal tanks are far superior to the plastic junk available today !

    Modern corporate thinking.----Along with shorter production runs.----Means these miniature electronic parts are no longer available.------Compare this to the availability of parts for say a 1955 Johnson / Evinrude 5.5 HP magneto.----They used that magneto for 40 years on 1.5 HP to 40 HP...
