    Some will argue.-----I use 220 grit only.---Strip about 1/4" wide.----Work it gently to establish a cross hatch finish..-----No need for finer grit to have a mirror finish !!-----I do the same procedure on lower unit shafts.

    The cowling tells me it is a 1980 model.-----An excellent motor when it left the factory.----Condition is everything when a motor is 40 years old.

    Some would argue-------I use 220 grit polishing cloth strips.----Lightly polish that and put a crosshatch pattern on those journals and bore of the rods.----Been doing that for years.

    They sold a lot of them and they are a good motor.---Easy to maintain.---Newer models had better crankshaft material.----Thicker wall piston skirts on newer models.----Your model # is ?

    You must use the correct switch and wire it up correctly.----Expensive damage will result if mistakes are made.----Part # of the factory switch that you installed ?-----Pictures of wires installed on each terminal.-----Colour of wires on the " M " terminals ??

    Are you pushing the key in while cranking it over ?-----That is if it has the electric primer valve ( thingy with the red lever ) installed and working properly.----And 90 PSI would be low for a 4 stroke engine like that.

    It just sounds good on the muffs to the untrained ear.-----I suggest you do a compression test.---Follow that with a test for spark.-----Good spark on those will jump up to a 1/2" gap.----Might be running on 3 of 4 cylinders.

    Not an issue with the o-rings.-----The issue would be corrosion products jamming the hole where the rod goes through.-----The white powder is ALUMINUM OXIDE.-----Aluminum combined with oxygen.-----Now more material in there ( oxygen ) thus it jams stuff up.----Some would scrape that...

    Chinesium parts and everything fits.-----3/8" hose was often specified for V-6 motors.-----5/16 is adequate for smaller motors.

    You will need to disconnect shift wires.----Then attach a " fish " to pull them back up on assembly.----Yes driveshaft seals are in a housing that is removed.----Driveshaft stays in place.

    I have done some plating.----Copper and hard chrome.,-----Have you studied / looked up the term ---" throwing power "-----There is more to good plating than dipping the parts in a solution and throwing the switch.

    These motors used the same gas line connecter from about 1960 to the 1990's----Yes the 5/16" hose will work fine.----Picture of your motor fitting ?

    2000 Mercury (Tracker) 125 2+2 motor making gas slicks in idle

    All 4 sparkplugs fire all the time.------Only a wee bit of fuel goes into the bottom 2 cylinders at idle.----That is for lubrication and cooling.-----Find the leak on your motor.----I think something is leaking.----Check all hoses !
