    Actually the coils often ---" burn through "--- on the bottom and short to the magneto plate.----This why some of have tested for spark using a testing device.

    If you do not know how old the impeller is you need to install a new one.-----This motor does not have an alarm or shut down system.-----It will overheat and run till it is too late !

    What did the coils look like.--- There is a need to answer the question.----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more on a test device ?

    I think you need to take starter apart / inspect / ohm check armature.------Don't rush out and buy a new Chinesium one !-----If motor does not crank fast there will be no spark.----Simple as that.

    There is a line on top of the cam.------When follower ( roller or pin ) lines up with that , then that is the point where throttle plate OPENS.-----Sounds like it is running on just 1 cylinder.---Post compression numbers.----And does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more on a test device ?

    What is the model # on the transom bracket.-----That may not mean much as this motor has seen some work.
