    boat trailer calipers vs auto

I've worked on the calipers for my boat trailer but never on automotive calipers. Due to the fact that boat trailer calipers are routinely dunked in water I was wondering if the boots for the slider bolts were made more water proof than their auto counterparts. If they are indeed tighter and...

Milk in reservoir, not in outdrive

When you replaced the reservoir, assuming you dumped it out, what did you observe? You say, "whatever it is". Can you describe more in depth.

Milk in reservoir, not in outdrive

Unplug the two wires (on mine they're bullet connectors and it doesn't seem to matter which way they are connected), leading from the bottle and dump the bottle out. Remove the sludge by whatever means you can without damaging the float.

    Switching mercruiser throttle controls

I have a Quicksilver 3000 controller, 2002 model. It's been a while since I researched this but I remember my findings were that if I wanted to replace my cables I would have to move up to the 4000 controller. I think the cables for the 3000 were NLA.

    Dragging caliper away from home

Agree. I have a caliper on order but not sure it's gonna get here before next planned outing so good chance I'm facing this situation before Sunday/Monday of next. I'll need to tow around 40 miles round trip to the ramp. My plan, If caliper does not arrive, is to drive the boat storage (1.5...

    Dragging caliper away from home

Hypothetical: My boat trailer has disc brakes on all 4. While 50 miles from home I notice a wheel is getting very hot. I jack it up to discover the caliper is dragging. What can I do to alleviate the situation so I can limp home? Aside from locking out the brakes completely, the only thing I...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Following but getting lost. Do I understand correctly that you're building the bracket yourself but contracting out the actual repower? You are in the northeast right? Aren't most repower contractors in FL? If you build the bracket yourself won't that affect warranties?

Spark plugs and cap replacement interval

The manual for my 2002 5.0 MPI specifies plug changes every 300 hours. I don't have it in front of me but I don't think it specifies a time frame on plug wire changes. I've changed mine once in 1,680 hours. I change the cap/rotor about every 5 years but I trailer in fresh water and have...

    Best flooring options?

In regard to fishing I suppose vinyl would be noisier right?

    Prop Swap opinions...

BTW, assuming your 4.3 has power steering you don't need the trim fin zinc. You can use the flat zinc disk. Glad you're getting great results with the 4 blade.

    Prop Swap opinions...

If you start changing prop families, brands, number of blades, etc. things get experimental. As you stand right now you are queued up just right to drop 2" pitch with the exact same prop and achieve what you want. Assuming you are currently running a Mercury Black Max I would buy the same...

    Prop change on my bowrider

A 21 4 blade will behave like a 23 3 blade, probably too much. I'd try a 21 3 blade. But first, check your tach. I would not expect a carbed 4.3 to be turning a 19 that fast. Something may be off.

    aluminum prop comparison

The rev limiter is your WOT. Report your readings at the rev limiter.

    aluminum prop comparison

As previously said you need to go WOT to get an accurate baseline. Just do it momentarily enough to get a reading and back down. You won't blow your motor up if it's just for a moment.

    Knocking when turning

My screw up one time was when in went to put the drive in forward gear prior to removal I pushed the button and went full throttle thinking I was gong into forward gear. I guess pushing the neutral button was a normal reaction with the boat sitting on the trailer as if during winterization for...

    aluminum prop comparison

MBAKER, in your original post you list BS Pro props. I had never heard of it. Appears to be a Korean aftermarket brand. Could be good to look into.

    aluminum prop comparison

Turning Point and Solas make decent props it's just that their quality control is not what you will find with homegrown Mercury or PowerTech products. At least that's what I gather after reading many many threads on this subject.

    aluminum prop comparison

The Spitfire is Mercury's attempt at building a Rev 4 out of aluminum. So it doesn't surprise me the thicker aluminum 23 matches the 21 steel.
