    aluminum prop comparison

If you are not carrying as much weight as before and you are having to throttle back to not exceed operating range I would change to a 3 blade. I realize you are not interested in top end but efficiency is another factor.

As a starting point put your info into the Mercury Prop Selector and see what it spits out.

    aluminum prop comparison

Even within the same manufacturer when you switch prop families, e.g Mercury Vengeance to Mercury Tempest Plus, you cannot count on them acting the same. I've not experienced this but some report that that two, what appear to be identical props, taken right out of the box will often not run the...

    Automatic trim tabs

I have the black plastic ones. My boat didn't need much help but they did improve plane time and especially helped with slow speed wander. Good product. Wish I had thought of it years ago lol. I also bought the flip up brackets in case I needed to defeat them for some reason. Now keep in...

    1995 Alpha1 G2 bellows question(s)

Concerning the exhaust tube I bought mine on Ebay part #78458A1 which is OEM. But to be honest this is one part that you could absolutely get by with after market. As long as it fits snug that's all you need. You could also just cut your exhaust bellows in half and leave the transom side...

    Kicker motor vs towing

Good catch. Yes I should have used "trailering" instead of "towing" in my original post. Panther does say "trailering".

Alpha Gen 2 Stalls Going to Neutral (Shift Cable Replaced)

Is the cut out plunger in the center of the notch? Spray lube all pivot points. How old is the cut out switch?

    Kicker motor vs towing

I've researched the BoatUS towing situation. I thought for my area (lakes and rivers of KY) it was very sparse but to my surprise it's better than I thought, at least for the waterways I'm interested in, that being Ky Lake and the Ohio river. Unlike Lake Cumberland those waterways are not cut...

    Kicker motor vs towing

The issue you bring up with ingesting water on a non running engine is something I hadn't thought of. With a non running alpha 1 gen 2 I seam to remember someone with more knowledge than me saying it was not generally possible to push water past a non turning impeller.

    Kicker motor vs towing

I subscribe to a towing service on Lake Cumberland but there are lots of places without cell service. Also I'm planning on trailering to other places, e.g. Kentucky Lake, where I would not have tow service. Factor in my boat is 23 years old.

    Kicker motor vs towing

Considering a kicker in the future for safety concerns, i.e. not trolling. For those who have kickers, do you tow with them mounted? I see that Panther Marine says to ALWAYS remove the motor prior to towing. Now I suspect very few really do this and that is considered "attorney" language...

Mercruiser check valve assembly. Looks like Amazon has some options. Pretty easy job on mine. Access wasn't bad.

    Vapor lock or something else?

I probably dealt with this for 1/3 of a season. It would only occur on the hottest of days. Come fall when it cooled down the problem went away. Once I suspected it was due to vapor lock I would loosen the fuel filter and let it breath a bit, retighten and it would restart.

    Vapor lock or something else?

Yes mine would restart after a period of time...say an hour or so depending on how hot the day was. I put your SN in and apparently you do have the same check valve.

    Vapor lock or something else?

Recommend starting by replacing the check valve mentioned in post 4. See what happens. It's an $80 part. Solved my vapor lock problems 700 hours ago.

    Vapor lock or something else?

I had a similar condition happen on my 5.0 MPI (serial #0M345638). There is a check valve in back of the fuel pump that I believe stops hot engine water from backing up into the fuel pump. The valve had come apart. This fixed mine. If you go to marineengine.com, put in my serial number, go...
