What type of oil and lube to use

And Volvo itself at least here has discontinued the abovementioned and says to go with VP original 10w40.

Faulty fuel sender or fuel gauge?

The problem is following - switch on the batteries, turn ignition and the fuel gauge moves to correct position. Everything works fine until you come down from plane and the gauge drops to zero and diagnostics display reads "system faulty". Then if you switch of the engine and batteries and turn...

    Antifouling outdrive

Lifted out my boat at the end of the season and the outdrive was basically looking like bush. So enough is enough, for the next season will paint my outdrive with antifouling. There's not much on that in youtube so not sure how it would be correct - scuff with 3M pads, prime with 2 part epoxy...

    winterizing question

Interesting, my manual from 2008 doesn't say a word about this. Maybe there are regional differences between the books, who knows. And, if we really are talking about condensation and not "relatve air humidity" then 50:1 mix really isn't going to protect anything...or will it? I did it myself...

    winterizing question

Thats true. However, considering the official numbers here say that we have an average of 200, yes thats 200 freeze-melt cycles per year I'm thinking just draining isn't going to cut it. So you het the idea about condensation and all in this kind of weather.

    winterizing question

Thanks for input. Regarding manufacturer procedure it says only to drain the water from seawater side (its a half closed system) and you're good to go. Nothing about fogging or mixing fuels. What I've done myself is mixed a 50:1 fuel with 2T oil, filled fuel filter with that and external tank...

    winterizing question

Just to be sure, I did mine the same way - sprayed a bit of oil into cylinders and turned the engine by hand. Now that was hard and I'm not sure if I managed to get even one full round. Would have been much easier and better result if done with starter. But I read from somewhere that if you do...

What type of oil and lube to use

Just to add, my 2008 4.3gxi requires SAE30 or then alternatively was it 20w50 full synth. As the latter is practically impossible to find here I'm running semi-synthetic 15w50 by Motul, designed for 4T marine inboards. On plane it runs somewhere between 400 and 420 and coming off from plane it...

    "Fogging" new VP 4.3?

Since I'm only spraying the cylinders but all others are mixing fuel I'm starting to think whether I might be missing something. So could someone say what other than cylinder walls will benefit from two stroke fuel mix?

    Exhaust overheat on 4.3 gxi

Yup, half system, meaning the seawater goes through heat exchanger and out through exhaust.

    Exhaust overheat on 4.3 gxi

Hmmm...measured the position now, if anything, the starboard side is actually lower. And since it is closed cooling (forgot to mention that) the thermostat doesn"t affect the waterflow in exhaust. Someghings wrong here...

    "Fogging" new VP 4.3?

How I do my 4.3gxi-jF is that I pull the plugs, spray fogging oil for couple of seconds into cylinders and then either turn it couple rounds by hand or with starter (plugs not fitted) and thats the end of it. No two stroke oils into fuel or anything (I run non-ethanol fuel only). Drain the sea...

    Exhaust overheat on 4.3 gxi

Pulled out my boat the other day - ran it for five minutes on the hose and got really surprised. Port side exhaust manifold, riser and exhaust pipe was just warm or even rather cool as it should be. But on the starboard side, manifold and riser was uniformly warm/cool but the exhaust pipe was so...

Paint Plugged my Volvo Penta Hi/Low Fuel Pump

Does anybody have an idea what should be the temperature of the pump when running? Somewhere I heard that the fuel is cooling the pumps and if the pump is struggling the temperature will rise, meaning the pumps will get hot. Is that true or not necessarily? And if it's true, what would be too...

    Noise after impeller change

The odd periodic sound seem to coincide with one full round of the serpetine belt. Check if it has tears or marks on it. For a short timie I think you can also take the belt off and run the engine without it, see what it does. Other than that, I'm amazed your fuel cell is so quiet.

    4.3 GXi-J with DPS-A howling sound

Yes it has always been the same, hence all the parts that have been changed but little to no effect on sound. It's 2008 so does that make it later model? Also, I have heard the V6 Volvos and Mercs tend to produce sort of "screaming" sound compared to V8-s but that sort of jetplane sound is kinda...

    4.3 GXi-J with DPS-A howling sound

Drive fluid level correct, no milky shade or metal shavings or anything. However, I have no clue what oil it is since the mechanic did it. Only thing I see that the color is sort of bluish or slightly greyish. Could yhe make of fluid cause such an impact on sound?

    4.3 GXi-J with DPS-A howling sound

Following problem - there is a howling or humming sound when on plane. It's not there when you rev the engine in neutral, so probably coming from the drive, right? Or is there a possibility it's still the engine but appears only under load? U-joints are changed, gimbal bearing changed, raw water...

DPS-A trim sensor drives me nuts

Back to this old issue sice I still dont have it solved. Anyway, could it be possible that it"s not the sender that is faulty but the gauge sine it shows the max reading even when the sender is unhooked? So could Volvo engineers somehow made the trim limiter to operate through the gauge?

Slight Leak Trim Cylinder - Father’s Day?

Those trim cylinders are sometimes "sweating" when they sit untouched for longer periods. Same story with some of the motorcycle front forks - unwrap them in the spring and the shocks are sweating, take it for a spin and they are bone-dry for the rest of the season. So I suggest take a break...
