    Pull the plastic cover of the gearhousing, see if the cable is still attached to the linkage. If it is, is the linkage working. Go from there.

    Hmm, I set them so that forward straight up (blades at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock) and rear prop symmetrically in between, meaning at 2, 6 and 10, so not 33 degrees but 60 deg apart. Could that be the reson why I feel sort of vibration in the hull when driving?

    My bet it's the tensioner. Turn off the engine, take the belt off and spin the tensioner pulley with a cordless drill or something, see if it makes noise.

    Still did one more experiment - unhooked the trim sender connector and while the trim itsel is actually working the gage still shows 56. So how's that possible - sender is not even connected but gage shows constant number. IS it possible that it's not the sender but the fault is somewhere else?

    Did couple of more check-ups - just to be sure even if they don't matter. Unhooked all trim pump/sensor connectors, cleaned them with contact cleaner. Went through fuses according to wiring diagram. Tested the wiring of trim switch on the remote. Result still the same. Thought of buying a new...

    Next time when it goes out, put a multimeter on the sender wires inside the boat (usually somewhere between back of the engine and transom. Is it still showing or out of business. I suspect water intrusion to the sender body.
