Alpha waterpump housing possible cause of no cooling water flow?

Usually the top and bottom of the copper watertube seal against those gromets. They last longer then the impellers, so they often get overlooked.

    Ujoint bellow

Note exactly the orientation of the hose clamps, as they need to be in the proper place not to interfere with the bellows, hoses, cables, etc.

Old 4hp Evinrude takes a nap

Does that motor have a fuel pump? They can collect dirt pass it to the carb, and of course just fail.

    Support for new floor

That is similar to my speedboat in design. I repaired it the way Mikeshinlaub suggested. After the new foam is installed and trimmed, put resin saturated strips of cloth or mat on the stringer. Next put a saturated layer of cloth or mat on the bottom of the plywood (stainless steel staples...

    1976 EZLoader Axle Replacement

There is a good trailer parts in Delaware (Eastern Marine). They stock E-Z load trailer parts, however, with the age of your trailer, you will likely need to match up replacement parts. Usually measuring the leaf spring mounting spots and the overall length of the axle, allows you to match...

4 all y'all still shovelin snow

The Michigan Mackinac bridge was closed due to falling ice today. We had 70 and 80*F the last few days, her at the shore. I guess it is still winter in the U.P.

Mercury Tempest, Turning Point Mach 3 or Michigan Wheel Apollo?

I bought the Apollo in 21P. It looks real good, and I look forward to testing it. I am expecting a bit of performance increase over the turning point Hustler. SS props do real well in Barnegat Bay since we had mostly sand/silt and that tends to polish them. There is a cove in Barnegat bay...

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

"How do you test an auto sensing bilge pump?" They run every 2-3 minutes for a second or two to see if there is water to pump. So wait 3 min and listen for the pump to come on.

Should I change prop pitch/ go to stainless.

Gee, the water pressure is fine. I run stock water pickup. On my 1500, I plugged the top water inlet hole and enlarged the bottom water pickup hole a bit. I am not sure that was needed, however. The issue with using the Jackplate was that the motor needed to be fully down in order to get on...

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

Gee, I currently use a electronic-sensing auto bilge pump. It has no float to get jammed and they last 5 years or so, before breaking. Every of those pumps that I had (say 6), failed in the electronic water sensor module. The pump would still work on manual. I transitioned to the...

Should I change prop pitch/ go to stainless.

Scott, My 16 footer/ Merc 1500 did have better performance with a Jackplate. It was not a lot better, but it made the boat harder to drive IMO than the extra speed benefit. I therefore removed the Jackplate. I still have the engine raised about 1-1/2 inches on the transom, and the factory...

Anyone still running a Berkeley Jet?

I saw a couple of videos discussing repair/refurbish of the subject jet units. It looks like parts are available. The old Olds engines are not widely avail. Are there newer engines that are used? Are the more modern PWC jets more efficient? Their impellers are quite different than the...

Should I change prop pitch/ go to stainless.

Do you have a 2::1 gear ratio on that engine?

Should I change prop pitch/ go to stainless.

Have you checked the accuracy of the tach or speedo? It would be hard to get to 50MPH on a 19" pitch prop @ 5KRPM, I would think. If you try 21P prop and can still get 5KRPM, you should be closer to 50MPH, IMO.

    Mercury thunderbolt 500

Gee, I always thought the 850s like the '73 I had ran well, were easy to tune, mount and had good power for the weight. The insulation on the engine harness and dissy wires failed, after a few decades. The ign components were pricey as well.

    Family of 5, 19ft or 21ft?

Airshot, The Pinto issue was a big story in the early 80's. To be fair the Pinto's gas tank was in the same place and was the same design as the Mustang and other cars of the time. The top of the gas tank was the floor of the trunk, in a lot of those Ford and Mercury models. The difference...

    Compression

I think 120 git is too course. If you do try to true up the head, use brand new crocus cloth glued to the plate glass. Sand as suggested by Matt.
