Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

In the picture the fuel filter is missing. Was that way when I got it. Since then I’ve ins the filter and it looks like your pic. Also the oiler had been disconnected and tank removed. You can see the VRO pump sitting under the fuel pump.

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

The other two pilot screws are good for adjusting. I do need to pull the plugs and see how it’s burning fuel. I found an old picture you can see it on top of the carburetor. I’ll also post an older picture from when I did the thermostat to show y’all where the fuel pump is mounted to the...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

Okay. The only time it flooded the engine was when I forgot to shut the valve off between the new tank and the motor when I stopped to fish. I’m trying to figure out if the pressure could be affecting idle as well . If so I’ll install the fuel demand valve.(see link in post#6)The problem with...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

These things swell up and looks like a basketball. They’re supposed to be built with heavy material to take it. But the pressure will push fuel through the motor. There’s several articles about it. You’re supposed to put this fuel demand valve between it and the bulb and the valve only lets fuel...

Carburetor question on restoration I’m working on 1992 40 hp MSHQ Yamaha

Pulled and cleaned the carburetor bodies as I replaced everything thing else. All new jets, everything. Boat ran great until the third time out started idling high and hard to start. I did a link and sync by the manual the other day and it idles smooth and starts first pull. I also adjusted the...

    Thermostat housing hole.

Yes sir, I’m not going to do it until I get the tach set right. I’m going to run it here tomorrow and make sure it reads idle correctly then when I can take it and run on the lake to check wot. I’ll be reporting in. Also the prop guy said he’s gotten pretty good at looking at a rig and taking...

    Thermostat housing hole.

I just found the perfect solution. I just got off the phone with a guy that sells props. He said to bring my boat and I can go to a near by lake and test run them to select the proper size. Then order the one I need or he’ll sell me a used one if I want. I’m going to get two with different pitch...

    Thermostat housing hole.

Here’s the worst of the three blades. I’m thinking it maybe getting kind of thin. The prop shop said for the stainless it will start at $100 for the hub and it needs a fracture fixed and other work. I don’t know what kind of prop it is or if it’s worth much. The only thing I find on it is...

    Thermostat housing hole.

I’ll post a better picture of it. My last time out it was real windy and I beat up everything I think. I keep acting like I’m back in a bass boat and this old boat can’t take it. I have a stress crack in the transom now. I’ll have to get it welded. The prop doesn’t look as good as this picture...

    Thermostat housing hole.

It’s mine. Fastbullet must have used one of my previous pictures. It looks a little different now. I’ll post a picture.I’m not sure this wasn’t a spare. There’s another stainless prop needing a hub and has a fracture that was in the boat when I bought it. Definitely not OEM. I can’t tell who...

    Thermostat housing hole.

Those fittings where new. I know the male was OEM but I may have used an after market female that said it was for Yamaha and they didn’t get along and leaked. Now there are no leaks and the bulb primes up firm and stays that way for a while. I’ll be moving it back to the driveway in a day or so...

    Thermostat housing hole.

. It’s been a while guys Hello searider, it’s been a while and I’m hoping to get back at the boat soon. I raised the left side of the trailer to help the rain drain and discovered that I have to now do the wheel bearings. Everything maintenance wise was completely neglected by the previous...

    Thermostat housing hole.

Oh,on post 239 in the picture you can see the Velcro on the handle. That’s where the tach rides. When at home it’s under the front of the cowl to keep it out of the weather. It’s ran straight from the first plug wire to there. Going down that side of the motor also keeps it away from any other...
