    Compression

I have a question about compression test. I have never done one on my motor because I never thought I needed to. What problems will warrent a compression test. Bad o-ring, bad head gasket, etc? I just would like to know what issues I could have that I need to do a compression test...

    Used props

Hello, Are there used propeller for sale? Before I call my local marina and sound like an idiot, does anyone think I'll be able to find one. Still being a newbie at boating, I don't want to shell out a whole lot of money for a new one. I destroyed my last one when we decided to camp at a boat...

1989 force 50 hp starting problem

Re: 1989 force 50 hp starting problem I think most solenoids are wired this way. Red 4ga wire from battery into the solenoid. Red 4 ga wire comes out and goes to the starter. The terminal on the left get a ground from the block. There should be a big bolt in the block where the relays and...

    Support transom

Hello, Is there a way to strenthen the transom/splash well without removing the motor? It is a 21 year old boat. I've seen pics on here where people have metal(Alu, stainless) supports lining the transom. Are these handmade jobs or something I buy? Thanks, Tom

    Tacho problems

Re: Tacho problems This may be a long shot, but try connecting your tach signal wire to a different AC wire. You should have two wires that come from under the flywheel both the same color. Those two wires run into your rectifier/ voltage regulator. Those two wires are know as the AC wires...

1997 75HP Force Controls to Outboard Guages

Re: 1997 75HP Force Controls to Outboard Guages I personally wouldn't rely on wire color alone. I have a manual with different wire colors than what is in my boat. What I did was trace each wire and wrote it down for reference later. Volt meter: Pos(+) goes to ignition wire from the key...

    Transom Compostion

It's hard to believe that an 89 Ebbtide used just wood and fiberglass to build a transom that you hang a 300 plus pound motor on. When I repaired the floor this summer, there were two metal plates that anchored the seats to the floor. Is there any metal bracing or support in the transom...

    Transom safty

Hello, We are going to Lake Raystown in PA this weekend, which for us is a four hour drive. I plan on trailering the boat up there too. Besides using a transom saver, is there anything else I can do to protect the transom from the weight of the motor on rough and bumpy roads? Thnaks, Tom

    Shifter

Hello, I just bought and installed a new Teleflex side mount throttle and shifter. I got the throttle hooked up and seems to be working right. There is a tag on the shifter handle saying "Do not shift into forward or reverse with engine not running", why? What harm can be done by putting it...

    Running w/o t-stat

Hello, I searched for a while, and can't find any info wheather or not it is safe to run the engine without a thermostat. Mine is stuck closed and the new one won't get here until middle of next week. Its not cold enough outside to winterize the motor just yet. Hoping to get a few more runs...

Strong water flow but still hot

Re: Strong water flow but still hot I know where the thermostat is but as far as the head not so much. Is it the side with the spark plugs? Or is is the side to the left in the picture below? Thanks again, Tom

Strong water flow but still hot

Hello, Has anyone ever encounter this? I was running it in a tub and keep checking the temp of the water. It was cool and the water coming out of the port holeson the legwas warm not hot. At 140F the overheat buzzer came on. At that point I shut her off. I felt the block to confirm my gauge...
