    1994 Johnson 150 looper issues

Just completed a full rebuild of this motor and the first trip out all went great and got 2.5hrs but then on my second trip today all was going great until the ending part of the trip. As I was heading back to the dock the warning horn srarted doing a constant beep but those very rapid ones not...

1994 J150 leaks fuel on starboard side under carbs

Just completed a full rebuild on a 1994 Johnson 150 Ocean runner 60* looper and after I started and ran it for a few minutes on the hose there is fuel draining somewhere under the carbs on the starboard side. I think this is quite common on these and it did leak before the rebuild but I took...

    Recirculation/check valves on J150 looper

Can anyone advise which direction the flow should go on these check valves that are installed in the intake manifolds of the 1994 Johnson 150 loopers? So if you have your manifolds installed with the reeds cages in but no carbs on where you can see the speghetti gasket and the 6 checks valves 2...

Premixed gas with marine fuel stabalizer

Hi, I have had gas in my boat tank for 5 months and used fuel stabil when I filled it up 5 months ago. Reason it's been that long is because I was waiting on rebuild parts for a Johnson 150 and wondering if the fuel will still be gook / ok to use for breaking in my completely rebuilt powerhead...

Yamaha 2004 Fuel Injected 250 saltwater series..loss of power

Hi, anyone know what would cause this motor to only fire on half the cylinders? I swapped coils and it did the same thing (no fire). And before that it would run perfect sometimes and then sometimes just not get above 2500 rmps but the most I ever got it to turn up was 5,000rpms. Any suggestions?

Awlgrip 545 Epoxy primer on Gel coat

Anyone know if these two don't work together? I was told by someone (not a painter) that Awlgrip primer doesn't stick to the boats gel coat. Is this a true fact?

J150 wrist pin loose needle bearings vs caged bearings

Is there a downfall in using the caged wrist pin bearings than the loose needle bearings? I am rebuilding a Johnson 150 60* V6 and loose needle bearings came out of the piston wrist pin but I now have the choice of going to caged or loose again, any suggestions?

    Johnson 150 crankcase/cover interchanging

Hi does anyone know if a 1994 crankcase cover can fit and work on a 1992/1993 crankcase. Reason I am asking is that I recently had a 1994 Johnson 150 60 degree V6 but it developed that leak in the number one cylinder so I purchased a used block that was machined and said to not leak however the...

    1994 J150 upper motor mounts

Anyone know any special way to remove the old upper motor mounts on these motors when they are stuck? I had to use a drill with a big bit to ream out the retainer because that wouldn't move either.

Hi, anyone changed the check valves on these blocks yet? What does the removal consist of and what tools are needed?

J150 replacement block with bigger bores

Hi I am in the process of rebuilding a 1994 J150 and I purchased a used block that has 5 cylinders @ .20 over and 1 cylinder @ .30 over. I also have the pistons to go with this but do I need to upgrade anything in my carbs or exhaust ports to operate this over sized motor efficiently and safely?

Forged or Cast pistons for 1994 Johnson 150

I am in the process of a complete rebuild of a Johnson 150 looper and trying to decide which pistons I should use out of the OEM cast or the Wiseco forged pistons. I am leaning more to the forged for longevity but if anyone thinks otherwise please let me know.

1989 20ft Wellcraft CC with twin motors

Has anyone installed a bracket on one of these boats or one this size and used X2 150's? What I am getting at is, can the boat handle this and ofcourse any sterdying up needed would be done and the motors would be the earlier models 1994-1997 Johnson 150 Oceanrunners.

    Nauticus smart tabs

Anyone know of or used these trim tabs on their boat yet? They are automatic and no electronics to control and are just self adjustable. Do they really work and make a difference? I would be installing these on my 20ft center console Wellcraft sportfisher.

    Compression on 1994 J150 motor

I bought a new compression guage (OTC) and checked the compression on this motor and it read 105-120 staggered figures which I know is normal. But I then realised that my guage needle wasn't returning to 0 and was stopping at 20. I opened the back of the guage and set the adjustment bar so that...

Gunk piled up on spark plug J150

I was checking my spark plugs today after I went fishing yesterday because I noticed after the trip my motor had some smut marks on a couple spots. I pulled the #1 spark plug on the starboard side and I don't know what it is but it is piled tight in the spark plug and its black but when I scrape...

J150 starts fine, idles but spits every couple of seconds

Hi, I just noticed recently when I was flushing my 1994 J150 that it has a spit every couple of seconds and the motor kicks to one side when it does. The tach is reading 1,080 at idle and when it kicks it jumps to about 1,150 and back down. And also if I give it a little rev it takes a couple...
