    Looking in the manual it indicates a straight weight oil. I have asked locally and people have been using 15W-40 diesel oils, which are significantly cheaper. I am flushing out the old oil because of water contamination that I think (hope) may be due to bad shutters that I just replaced. I...

    Re: 4.3l mercruiser with steam from vent lines I wanted to probe for water in the bottom of the engine so I extracted a bit of oil after letting the motor sit overnight. Here is a photo of the oil. It does have a hint of gas odor. I didn't find any free water.
