    I doubt grease in itself help ignition being an insulator anyway there are several high temperature grease products on amazon. Some by Permatex good to -46C to + 1650 C

    you can make this as complex as you wish. I think you should fix the spark problem and worry about grease and oil after. You are working on a 57 year old engine and things and products haved evolved... greasing a spring should not be a major problem. Become a happy boater.

    ok in retrospect dieelectric grease is more for moisture in connectors and clamps no so much like true HV silicone...to stop arcing in old TV flyback transformers give it a smell test burnt stuff usually smellls.. burnt :-) points looked real dirty ..........hopefully a good clean...

    hard to say for me anyway maybe Racerone can comment .. any burn marks are not very good and may indicate arcing althoug the stator is an AC generator not HV as in the ignition coil. arcing may have taken place from a close by " hot spot" due to a " better" ground proximity than plug...

    5v heading back to the breaker point may in fact be normal voltage... That wire is there only to "sense" the ground furnished by the points. I have no info or voltages specs on the internal desing of that " amplifier box" and how it increases the voltage burst going to the main ignition...
