    U joint shaft

That could then , explain the rumble! Guess I’ll haul the boat out, and replace that gimbal bearing! First chance I get!

    U joint shaft

My problem started when my bilge pump failed during a very rain and filled my boat almost to the carb. Bellows are only 2 yrs old! Now a rumble occurs which never happened before! Is it possible for water to enter the gimbal bearing and or u joints from the bilge? By the way, the engine...

    U joint shaft

Will be replacing my alpha one gimbal bearing ! Once the outdrive is removed and if the u joints need replacing, would I need to remove the shaft from the unit? There appears to be kind of a slotted nut holding it on. Anything else ? Special wrench? I hate replacing u joints!!!!!!

I don’t know how I missed that! Thanks for the notice!

    Alpha 1 u joint replacement

Will be in the process of replacing the gimbal bearing on my alpha one. If the u joints will also need to be replaced, can this be accomplished while the shaft is still attached to the out drive? If the shaft assembly does need to be removed, is it just that large retainer bolt that holds it...

    Possible gimbal bearing noise

Yes, you are correct! Everything underwater! Pumped out 5 gallons of water from engine! Changed oil, removed spark plugs an turned the engine over to blow out the cylinders! Dryed distributor cap etc and alternator and installed new plugs, fresh auxiliary gas tank, turned key and the 5.7...

    Possible gimbal bearing noise

Everything has been replaced within the last couple years with limited use! Never had this noise til this water in bilge fiasco! The zerc fitting is below the water line but I think I can still get a grease gun on it!

    Possible gimbal bearing noise

During a recent very heavy rain storm, my auto bilge pump impeller got stuck and bilge filled up with water. Now, I hear what I perceive to be gimbal bearing noise/rumble! It’s a relatively new install! Can water infiltrate the bearing and cause this problem? And if so, can I grease the...

    Boat trim

Ok, just to make sure we’re all on the same page about this, but my scuppers are below the waterline! The SeaScuppers state they won’t work below the waterline! Sounded to good to be true! Yes thought of moving the two starter batteries forward to midship, but only as a last resort and maybe...

    Boat trim

Did not major in physics but after the added weight of the 5.7 caused the transom to drop, water started to enter thru the scuppers and come out thru the corner floor drains if anyone was standing in the stern! Moving forward, the water drained out! Hence my theory that if weight is added as...

    Boat trim

Perhaps I was, after a long party evening, too quick to judge! Upon further review, it does sound more logical! My apologies to you, Roscoe!

    Boat trim

Since I replaced the 4 cylinder 485 with a 5.7, my stern now sits lower and allows water to enter the boat thru the scuppers! I’d like to balance the boat out so that when at rest in the slip, water won’t enter! Have a anchor locker in the bow about 24 w 32 w 4 inches which is just under 2...

Starting mercruiser 350 after boat almost sinks

Update: first oil change as stated was really more of a dirty dark brownish! The 2nd oil change, after running for 30 minutes was quite clean, but will run her again tomorrow and change once more!

Starting mercruiser 350 after boat almost sinks

Yes, the clock was running! Finally got the engine started! Ran for 15 minutes, then shut it off and checked the oil: a bit milky, but I expected that ! Been running for an hour now and temp gauge shows 155/160F. Oil pressure 160! Shutting off now and will change oil and filter at least...

Starting mercruiser 350 after boat almost sinks

Yes, but what about the 4bbl carb! If the bowl is full of water, how do you get it out? Just keep pumping???

Starting mercruiser 350 after boat almost sinks

I can’t believe that I pumped 5 antifreeze jugs of water out of the engine before I got to any oil! Sure wish I had an electric pump! Removed the plugs and more water drained out of most cylinders. Plugs looked good, but wet! Should I dry them out and put em back in or just put new ones in...

Starting mercruiser 350 after boat almost sinks

Ok, didn’t think of the oven thing! As far as the motor, would turning the engine over with the plugs out be of any benefit? And how about the thunderbolt ignition?

Starting mercruiser 350 after boat almost sinks

The how and why doesn’t matter right now! The mercruiser 350 I/o took on water up to the spark arrester! Checked oil and it appeared good, then noticed water streaming out of the dip stick tube! Didn’t try starting the engine! Other than changing the oil several times, what else should I do...
