Just for a data point, do you also have an oil pressure gauge available? Or at least is the oil pressure idiot light working? It will be on before the motor starts and should turn off as soon as there is oil pressure.

I think the point is moot anyway because that won't affect the performance of the coils. Mine were starting to bump the flywheel again after I changed the timing belt a few months ago, so I took a sander to that part of the coils and filed them back a bit, painted for corrosion protection and...

If by 80psi air you mean compression, that sounds a bit on the low side. Some ideas: - Put a shot of oil into each spark plug hole then try again. If the cylinders are dry, the oil will increase compression and might do the trick. Hopefully nothing rusted from sitting. - If you've got...

You'll have new screws (easy disassembly), and the factory gasket is an o-ring I believe, so you can easily re-use it if it had not been in there long. Install the o-ring with just a little lube and see how it seals. If it leaks, disassemble, clean it up and add sealer.

    Starter question

Taking a complete stab in the dark, I'm going to rattle off some ideas; check the schematic and look to see if a capacitor is required anywhere near the rectifier/regulator. If one is required, make sure it's there and in good shape. Also did you happen to run it without a battery? Also is...

Maybe try to get in there with a pick or something and get the steel bits out before tapping? Maybe a pick like this?

    Honda BF50A carburetor diaphragm, confused!

Start by cleaning the carburetors really really well. And then clean them again. Use an ultrasonic cleaner if you have one, and focus on the tiny pinholes that are near where the throttle plate closes on the carburetor and the circuits that feed them. Shoot cleaner and air through every hole...

I did not have any steel left, I got 100% of the screw out. But after that the aluminum tapped super easy, it's soft metal. I think I used 3-in-1 oil, not a special cutting oil of any kid. Turn it in a little, back out some, in a little more, etc.. so it clears the chips as you cut. Blow the...

    Honda BF50A carburetor diaphragm, confused!

What problem are you trying to solve? All that diaphragm thing does is hold the throttle slightly open for a few seconds when you chop the throttle, to prevent a stall when you pull back from lots-of-throttle to idle suddenly. If you're not having that problem then I wouldn't sweat it. My...

Yes, here's a link to the kit I used. The threads were perfect for the OEM bolts. I'm not sure what alloy metal they used as far as its resistance to corrosion with salt. I've used them in aluminum before with success, but this is the first one I've used where salt will be involved. Time...

Great job with the drilling. I'm not sure how deep you went, but in the thread I linked above there was some spectacular advice to stop drilling as soon as the shavings changed color (steel to aluminum), so as not to drill into the empty space in the block, as that could cause a problem. Let...

Now that you've gotten them really hot, is there enough sticking up that you can grab it with some vice grips and see if they'll back out, while being careful not to mangle it too much?

They're some sort of chrome plated steel. No idea what alloy, but they sure do rust easily, so a poor choice for a boat motor IMHO.

There's always the possibility that if some bigger chunks break off, they could clog smaller passages. But if it looks dry and flaky, maybe that's unlikely, you'll have to make an educated guess at it. ;)

If you've got copper tube the right size, I guess you could try putting a short piece of tube around the stub sticking out to try to keep the weld off of the aluminum. I have zero experience welding though so don't take it from me! lol But I would think the heat from the welding would...

Hey, at least the 2 that didn't break are the 2 to not break! It's an easy fix if you're patient. I've been there, see this thread: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/best-method-to-drill-out-a-broken-off-bolt.765460/

I would not try to remove the exhaust anode cover. Instead, get some Rydlyme and flush the system, I posted a thread here about it somewhere on the 1999 version of the same motor, complete with instructions and photos. That will clean out more scale than you could manually scrape out anyway...

Honda BF60A stumbles at high speed

The plug may not be standard, but there should be a way to read codes and it's likely to be OBD protocol. See if you can get your hands on the shop manual for that motor, it will be helpful.

See if you can read any codes from it. I'm not familiar with that particular motor, but maybe you can read the codes with an off the shelf (not Honda specific) OBD reader. Any stored codes could potentially be very helpful.
