'84 Johnson 90HP died in water, won't restart

Exhuming this to ask: The thing has been running great and starting on the 1-3 crank consistently. The other day however I had the no start situation again. It spooked me, and I immediately pulled the engine cover to see if anything could be seen. The only thing I noticed was that the one...

    Trailer Lights

Are you testing your trailer lights at the 4 pin plug itself? And have you tested the truck 4 pin plug? For the truck side a simple test light, or for the trailer side, a battery is all you need. Use the ground on the 4 pin plug in both cases, that will tell you if any of the issue is ground. If...

Please HELP! Am I being overcharged for Presale Inspection, Service, etc 2016 Cobalt R3?

Please do follow up here for those of us playing along. Something seems not right. If it turns out to be foul play there could be folks who would want to avoid that particular broker. I know not everyone can or has the time to, but sometimes it's best to remove the middle man altogether.

Please HELP! Am I being overcharged for Presale Inspection, Service, etc 2016 Cobalt R3?

I would start by asking your broker for a line item invoice for his charge, and go from there before you pay a cent.

    Buying a fishing boat

That last one is sweet. "Trust no one believe nothing" would have saved me from buying my boat if I had known better. Bought it under the pretense of a working engine, only to find it toast when I got it home and put my hands on it. Onward I went into a partially full resto. All said, I'd...

    Tin Rig Tow Vehicle

I don't know if this video or similar has floated around here before, but I think it should be mandatory for anyone learning to trailer. In fact, it's truly odd that you can simply go rent or buy a trailer and not have any training, but oh well. I've been towing a while and I definitely...

A few instruments and gauges not working

If that were mine I'd tear it out and replace it with a new blade style blue sea systems fuse panel, and not even bother with troubleshooting that thing. It's not a ton of work to do, and your current wiring doesn't look like a horrible rats nest to untangle. New terminals crimped on all the...

Fair enough, thanks to you both.

Keeping the rim crevice from rusting...

Not supposed to be a bad joke but couldn't think of what else to title it ;) How does one keep the sharp angled rim crevice from rusting? I wash everything after every launch with salt-off, the rims are only 2-ish years old. Was thinking about smearing a finger of marine grease in that crack...

Need Help -Johnson 70HP 1975 Outboard Shakes

Jumping in to ask: is there a specific type of wire that is best for this? Steel? Al? Cu? Does the gauge matter? I got one of those cheapo's in the pic above and it flew apart the first time I used it, so I would probably opt to just make one to test again. To the OP, it's said above but the...

Through hull fitting extension for livewell plumbing

Didn't think of that. Still may just go transom mount, but I'm trying to limit the amount of things back there. It's not a huge boat, but I could fit one.

Through hull fitting extension for livewell plumbing

Actually, I may just go with a transom mounted pump. This is probably more work than it's worth.

Through hull fitting extension for livewell plumbing

Maybe a pic will help clarify. I need to get through the inaccessible space between my hull and deck. If the Groco through hull came with longer threads it wouldn't be an issue, but I've got at least 3" that needs to be made up. Trying to figure out if I'm missing something, making it more...

Through hull fitting extension for livewell plumbing

Ok, read all of the groco literature I could find. Their STH series through hull scoops are a combination thread. NPS for most of the shaft, and NPT just at the tip, allowing for the use of either direct mounting to a seacock, which has NPS threads, and relies on a ring of sealant at the base...

Through hull fitting extension for livewell plumbing

No I can't extend the fitting? I looked through McMaster for bronze couplings but didn't see any. Is there a solution to increasing the length of the through hull to the seacock?

Through hull fitting extension for livewell plumbing

Hi all, I'm planning for my livewell, intending to use one of the Groco filtered pickups. Plumbed through the hull into a seacock. The issue I'm running into is the space under my floor to the hull is between 4-6" or so, and the threads on the water pickup are about 2 3/16" long, quite short...

    '84 Aquasport osprey 19.5' - Good boat?

Thanks for all of the info everyone. Maybe I'm mistaken in my understanding of self-bailing. I figured that a boat with a deck above waterline and scuppers was a self-bailer? I know this thing also has a bilge pump down under. I think I'd just need to see it in person and assess. I'm also...
