    Is this a good engine?

As suggested above, a non-running engine is a total crap shoot, use that to your advantage on price haggling. You can make an educated guess as to what's wrong if you're familiar with engines, but no guarantees. Sometimes judging the character of the seller can tell you as much or more than...

    Is this a good engine?

Check it out good, around here all used engines have "only 4 hours", if you know what I mean. The oil should look new, both in the motor (if 4-stroke) and the lower unit. Try to determine if the prop or lower unit has been repainted. If it's a 4-stroke then I doubt it would run smoother...

    DIY water pump/Impeller 1st Timer

This is an excellent point, many people probably don't even know that there is a difference between philips and JIS, but the fit is for sure different. The proper bit fits very tight. If there is a dot on the screw, it is most likely JIS. But you cannot assume it is not JIS if there is no...

    DIY water pump/Impeller 1st Timer

Get a shop manual and read it, and watch a video on YouTube. Grease all of the bolts when you put it back together. Which Honda do you have? I've got a 99' BF50 (50HP) and have changed the impeller many times and it is easy.

1987 nissan 25hpruns great out of water but put under load rev or forward when throttling its missing but at idle its ok?

If you were squeezing the ball and the problem still happens then that would make a fuel delivery issue (fuel pump, air leak in the fuel line, ...) unlikely. Still check the fuel filters under the hood though.

1987 nissan 25hpruns great out of water but put under load rev or forward when throttling its missing but at idle its ok?

Fuel issues and electrical issues can give very similar symptoms. To rule out fuel; if the carburetor is clean, make sure any under the hood fuel filters are clean and run it on a portable fuel tank. Squeeze the bulb and make sure it's tight when you have the issue. If squeezing the ball...

    Honda bf20 not turning over.

My guess is you either over filled the oil or transported it on the wrong side and now the cylinder is full of oil. Remove the spark plug, pull the rope and see what comes out. Pull the rope a few times to get most of the oil out, double check the engine oil level, put the spark plug back in...

    1996 Nissan 2.5hp won't rev

Ah, the frustration of realizing it was something so simple, combined with the relief that it was something so simple. :)

    1996 Nissan 2.5hp won't rev

When you cleaned the carburetor, did you put cleaner though every hole followed by compressed air? If not then it might not actually be clean. Thought 2 is it might be a weak spark. Start with the spark plug, then check the coil and other ignition components.

resistor type spark plugs or not?

I would go with the resistor plug. It will be less noisy (electrically speaking), which means less potential interference with your cell phone, GPS, etc.. Here's a quote from the NGK web site, and a link to the full article: https://www.ngk-sparkplugs.jp/english/techinfo/qa/q08/index.html As...

    Strange Motor Behaviour.-

On a 2 stroke a weak spark can behave very similar to being excessively lean. If you're sure the fuel delivery side of things is OK then replace the spark plugs and start working your way back from there. Just food for thought; as teenagers my buddy had a 150 HP mercury V6 2-stroke (back in...

Honda bf5 leaking all engine oil out of lower weep holes

I'm not familiar with that specific motor, but I would first check the basic stuff such as the oil drain plug, make sure it has a good washer and isn't leaking. There's probably a base gasket under the powerhead that might be leaking, but unless the gasket is at the bottom of the sump it...

    Tohatsu ECU replacement

Either air bubbles in the potting material when they potted it, or something buried in the potting got really hot. If that's the old one, it's going to be a lot of work but you can chip away the potting to see what you find.

    BF50A limp mode

Wait, a 1997 Honda is carbureted, does it even have a "limp mode"? I've got the 99' version of the same motor. I had a problem where a small piece of fuel line had broken off and clogged one of the float valves. The motor would idle OK, then when I gave it any throttle that carburetor would...

Honda BF90D Water Pump Testing - Water pouring out of the side covers - Is this normal?

Did you remember a new seal where the pickup tube goes into the pump? I would also double check that the pump housing is not cracked and is sealing properly to the wear plate.

    50-1 Mix in a new 4 stroke

It will be fine. I couldn't tell you how much premix I ran through my old truck to get rid of it (new truck is diesel). Also my lawn mower gets more premix than strait gas. Every time we ride the dirt bikes they get fresh gas, at the end of the day there is often some left over so it goes...

2007 honda bf50, no tach or alarm

I've got the older (1999) carbureted 50, and confirm there is no chirp. The only time it makes any noise when things are normal is when you trim the motor up too high while the key is on, then the buzzer will buzz continuously. If yours is carbureted, maybe use that to test your buzzer (turn...

    Tohatsu ECU replacement

Before replacing the ECU, put an ohm meter on the wire between the ECU and the coil and make sure the wire harness is still good. It could be a bad ECU, or it could just be a bad wire.

2017 Tohatsu 20 hp 4 stroke oil leak

Clean it up squeaky clean with degreaser, take any plastic cowling off and let it sit until it leaks. See if you can figure out where it's coming from.

    Honda BF4?

Interesting approach, I'm afraid anything soft enough to absorb vibrations on both sides would also make the motor more likely to come off, but I suppose it's worth a try next time I've got some extra free time. Also I always have a chain connecting the motor to the boat, so if it comes...
