    Be sure to set the meter to measure dc voltage before you connect the leads to the wires. And be sure you connect the neg. lead to the pump ground and not to a common or battery ground, this way you'll be measuring the voltage at the pump. if you connect the neg. lead to either battery ground...

    There should be a 20vdc scale. Clip the black lead to the pump wire ground, no other ground, and the red lead to whatever wire you're measuring the voltage on.

    Is this a new problem that just started by itself? Are you saying the pump comes on by itself then turns off by itself? Are you seeing the tank fill "pump come on" while under way?

    Yup, I agree with all of the above. If you have a constant trickle charger on the battery it can boil off the water too.

    That makes sense. I only run my motor while I'm cleaning the rest of my boat and within sight of the motor/trashcan and run it no more that about 10 minutes before the water gets too warm.

    Why would you say that? I've been flushing my F150 in a 96 gal trash can for years and did the same with my old 175 2 stroke with no issues.
