'99 115 Yamaha choke butterfly plates are different

I was just curious and asking for an explanation. I guess choking just 2 of the 4 cylinders is just enough to get it started when it's cold, as I mentioned above. I don't remember actually if the smaller holes are on top or bottom, and not sure that that would change my curiosity or the answer...

'99 115 Yamaha choke butterfly plates are different

It still doesn't make sense to me that the top 2 cylinders get 5 times as much air when choked than the lower 2 cylinders do. We're not talking about a slight difference here. I'm just guessing that basically only 2 of the cylinders are actually "being choked" and that should be enough to get...

Evinrude 150 xp 1990 trim switch blowing fuse.

I'm pretty sure that motor has plastic square relays just like the ones you would find in the fuse box of a car. I'd start by replacing those. Auto parts stores have them pretty cheap. The tilt/trim motor (pump) is just a reversible motor. So the relays are needed to basically reverse the...

Johnson 70EL76D Looper Terminal Block Wiring

I'm wondering if you have had some overheat issues and the rings might have gotten compressed and are seized up. Several low-compression issues have been greatly improved on this forum by running some type of additive designed to free up stuck piston rings, but I can't think of the names of any...

    1997 Force 90hp Stiff steering

I'm with Roscoe on this one. I'm sure there are some wonderful Force motors out there, but I've worked on a few and they were all a disaster. So, there might be lots of compatible non-running compatible force motors out there. I'd look up the parts you need and then back-search to see what...

    1999 Yamaha 115 idle adjustment

I understand that the motor doesn't have an electric fuel pump. The boat has a built in 50 gallon tank and access is very limited. I can get to the sending unit, but that's about it. I'm curious, but not enough to cut the floor out. In my muscle car days, I always removed mechanical fuel...

    Syncing carbs?

Yeah, I know the vacuum gauge your talking about. Used to use one all the time on motorcycles and cars. I've just never seen anyone use one on an outboard motor, and I've never had an outboard motor that had the fittings for the vacuum gauges. Maybe yours does.

    Johnson 50 1996 2-cylinder. ? faulty ignition coil

Have you tested the coil that is working correctly? Is it possible that you were sold a bad coil? Or is the functioning coil testing the same as the new one and the suspected bad one?

    Syncing carbs?

I don't know that I've ever seen an outboard motor that has a nipple for connecting a vacuum gauge. Maybe it's because there's nothing on an outboard motor that operates on vacuum.

'99 115 Yamaha choke butterfly plates are different

(1998 S115TLRX)I'm sure I've just never noticed this before, but rebuilding my carbs and while scrubbing and cleaning I just noticed that the holes in the choke butterfly plates have different sizes. On the top carburetor, the holes in the choke plate are abut 1/8" in diameter, but the bottom...

    Carb tuning a 1986 Yamaha 50ELJ

I've also found shop manuals for many outboard motors at my local public library and have used the copier to print the needed pages like tune-up procedures and specs to have on hand when needed.

    Carb tuning a 1986 Yamaha 50ELJ

That factory manual that others have strongly recommended will have that information. I've downloaded factory manuals for every outboard I've ever owned. I think you can download it from the manufacturers website. My Yamaha 115 factory manual gives the starting point for all adjustment...

    Syncing carbs?

If you're talking about a vacuum gauge to sync carburetors, you'll have no need for that tool. The "sync" that we describe here is basically making sure your carburetors open at exactly the same time and the same amount. I don't think you'll find any place to hook up the vacuum lines on your...

    Evinrude overheat alarm

Sounds pretty odd. Id pull the temperature sensors and put them in a pot of water with a thermometer and an ohm meter connected to the leads. Basically, the sensor will have continuity at a certain temperature. I'd check them one at a time, unless you have 2 ohm meters laying around. I have...

1985 Mercury 115 tower of power

That is not a terribly difficult project. Might find some good cleaning that needs to be done, but it should be a quick if parts are readily available. Those were some great motors! I looked for a long time for one for a project that would have looked perfect with one of those motors on it...

    1988 30hp yamaha breaking dowr

When it dies, is the primer bulb still hard? Try pumping the primer bulb while it's running and see if that helps. If it runs fine as long as you pump the primer bulb, you need a new fuel pump.

    Kill switch replacement

There should only be two wires. Are you replacing the lanyard switch? All that switch does in ground the ignition system. Again there should only be 2 wires and it makes no difference which one goes where. All that does is make a connection if the clip is pulled out. What are you replacing...

    1999 Yamaha 115 idle adjustment

I have a couple of questions about my 115 Yamaha (S115TLRX). It's on my 1999 Sailfish 198DC. When I first got the boat, when I turned the key to the on position, I remember hearing a sound that sounded like my bilge pump turned on for about a second. It doesn't do that any more, and I've...
