    Odd shift cable fail

"adjustment is #1 phillips and needle nose pliers" is a bit confusing.

    No joy on 1969 Evinrude

That is an incredibly clean 1969 motor. Looks barely used. If you had the backfire after all the work was done, I'd check to see if the flywheel key is broken. Take out the #1 spark plug. It's the one that's closest to the top of the motor. I don't remember which side it's on. Stick a...

    All-Around light pole rake

I've always had one that is slanted to the back. That's just what's been on every boat I've ever owned. If I replaced it, I just went with what was there. Also, on occasion (4th of July), I'll stick a flag pole in there and the backwards rake works great for that too.

2014 Mercury 115 EFI not starting - new starter needed?

The small gear is your starter, the large gear is your flywheel. You've either got low voltage going to the starter or the starter is just bad. If the small gear is popping up every time, then the starter itself is most likely bad. Here's the real test of a bad starter. Yes, I'm absolutely...

    AC busbar

I'm not very familiar with A/C systems in boats, but do you have some type of breaker box? If so, the buss bar should be in the breaker box where all of the white wires are connected.

    Yamaha 115 S115TLRX midrange struggling

Link and sync and timing is all spot-on. As far as the enrichment screws go, it depends on what manual you look at. Yamaha says 5/8 to 1-1/2 turns out. Others say 1 - 3 turns out and if you need more than that you need to replace jets. When I bought the boat, the previous owner had just...

    Radio protection cover

search for Marine Stereo Cover on Amazon. There's just under a thousand of them there. This year, after having stereos in my boat that never lasted too long, I bought the Pyle bluetooth speakers on Amazon and use my radio app on my phone and/or music I have downloaded on my phone. Works great...

    Yamaha 115 S115TLRX midrange struggling

The Yamaha carburetors on my motor have idle enrichment screws. They allow more fuel to flow to the carbs at lower RPM's. I've got them turned out 1-1/2 turns which makes it crank right up even when cold. This is a great feature and it makes the boat able to idle through now wake zones with...

    1991 mercury tilt problems

Sounds like your tilt/trim is wired to only work with the key in the "ON" position. Have you tried using it with the key on, but motor not running? That's annoying when getting ready to trailer or launch the boat. Is this a new problem, or has it always been that way?

Can you change a Tohatsu 9.9 hp to 20 hp?

I had a 15 HP Evinrude that I went to a few boat yards and got permission to look around at all the broken down (not worth repairing) boats until I found a similar year model 9.9 and bought the cowling for it. The cowlings were exactly the same size/shape and it fit perfectly. If you get a 20...

    Yamaha 115 S115TLRX midrange struggling

Just rebuilt carbs and replaced plugs and water pump all a couple of months ago. My routine for getting it ready for summer island hopping and just getting out and enjoying God's amazing creation on the weekends. Anyway, what I have is a slight annoyance and not really a problem. I have two...

Choosing first prop to run .

What are you using to check speed? It looks a lot faster than than 22 MPH to me. But if you're using a GPS, that would be pretty accurate. With a little digging it seems that the third prop has a pitch of 9. If so, that would get your RPM's up, but top end speed might suffer. Obviously, you...

    Bog/Stall/Die on Throttle

When cleaning the carbs, did you run a piece of wire or a jet tool through all the jets? Did you set the float levels like they are supposed to be? Was the motor working properly before you took it all apart, or what was the reason for all this work to be done?

2006 Yamaha F150 wont turn off

Once your boat cranks up, it runs all by itself without the need for the battery (unless it's a 4 stroke with fuel injection possibly). So, when you turn the key off, all you are doing is grounding the ignition system. I have older motors that are probably much less sophisticated than yours...

2006 Yamaha F150 wont turn off

So far you've ordered an ignition switch for a motorcycle, a remote tilt/trim switch that didn't need replacing and a wiring harness that is not correct. You would have saved a lot of money if you had purchased some test equipment like a test light and a multimeter and started trying to...

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

Water skiing was a blast! Nobody around here does that anymore. I'm shopping for skis right now so I can teach my grandkids! I bet we'll impress them when they see their Pops and their dads show them our tricks! But maybe this 63 year old guy better take it easy. I can remember the "morning...

Old Evinrude question, Can anyone help?

Yes Jimmbo, it did have a fiberglass cowling. With small tailfins!! It's more the look of the boat that reminds me of our boat. That Evinrude lark was electric start, but had a door that opened down with the pull handle in there and some carburetor adjustment screws in there too. Yeah, I've...

Chrysler 55 one cylinder occasionally fires

You say there is spark until the wire touches the plug. That's how it works. The spark is an electrical arc. If the wire is touching the plug, there will be no arc. Also, you say it's running on one cylinder. I wouldn't run it any more until you know for sure it's not a carburetor issue...

    Bog/Stall/Die on Throttle

You mentioned both Carbs and throttle bodies. That's a bit confusing to me.
