In order to properly remove/install the seals the propshafts need to be on a bench. I use a small slide hammer to remove the seals. Too risky with damaging the carrier housing cavity with a seal puller
You will need the special tools to do this job correctly
Can replace both propshaft seals without removing the drive from the boat
I prefer doing the seals this way, helps support the drive for the removal/install of the retainer and carrier requiring high torque
Once the job is done then remove the drive for pressure test, lube fill and transom...
Thats a shame
Gm inline 6 is a wonderful motor.
Based on how clean the package appears in the (fuzzy) pics it might be worth sourcing a different long block
Prepare now to spend a lot of time and money
If you're not familiar with omc sterndrive products its 9:2 odds the package is in need of practical attention
Patience is required for many older products with little/no support
For an '86 that 3.0 L is clean.
Seeing only 12 volts on the opposite primary starter solenoid post I'd think the solenoid is bad.
Pics show a most likely replaced starter assembly, best to remove and inspect/replace as necessary
Guessing you're referring to the trim/tilt system?
If so, then there is an issue with the system, most likely electrical. Unless you see extremely low oil/leaks or massive corrosion externally my guess is an electrical connection issue at least
You need to familiarize yourself with a (guessing) conventional/ points ignition
There's a couple write ups in the stickies about function, troubleshooting and tune up
Top switch pictured is the shift interrupt. Lower one is the gear position switch
Gear position switch is present so the ecm knows when the drive is in gear or in neutral. Reason is for the over rev in neutral alarm/fault. Kinda superfluous but with a diagnostic tool it allows the user to see...
Some do
Malibu and Mastercraft are two that come oem factory with in fuel tank pumps
Worked for a dealership that insisted on changing fuel filters for winterizing. So many gaskets, so many bolts, so much fuel spilled/dumped.
I got pretty good at being efficient in changing the filters...
I agree with nolamike. This forum isn't a tool to be used for vetting your mechanic's advice/skills. It's designed to help people repair their own boats
I'll admit it's been amusing watching this thread and reading the vast amount of pragmatic advice you almost immediately disagree with or say...
