    No fire

Likely a thunderbolt ignition. A few reasons why no spark but most likely is ignition sensor in distributor. Need to verify no spark then follow the troubleshooting guide posted in the stickies

1997 mercruiser 4.3 starts right up, runs for about 30 seconds, idles down and dies repeatedly. Oil gauge doesn't peg at all. No oil pressure alarm.

Oil pressure would only come into play if your engine is carbureted with an electric fuel pump. If equipped with an electric pump it'd be appropriate to check fuel pressure and tune up conditions

Replaced outdrive Mercruiser alpha one gen one stalls going into reverse

It's not a shift interrupt switch issue, at least the switch isn't the problem Most likely your issue is a mis adjusted lower shift cable or the cable is old, worn and binding. Common issue. The cable is binding and engaging the shift interrupt at the wrong time. There is a good write up about...

    Mercruiser thunderbolt IV ignition module

The oem ignition sensor comes with a splice kit to connect the older style ring terminal shift interrupt switch and module leads to the latest style bullet connectors If you purchased an aftermarket sensor I don't think it comes with a splice kit

    7.4/Bravo - no hot start

Definitely ignition and carb inspections needed. Check for the fuel dribble upon shut down, like Rick says it's common on webers For ignition definitely need a spark check upon no start, especially when hot. Yeah, thing runs great for a long time but the engine gets hotter upon shutdown, heat...

Replace Bravo2 Lower Unit W/ Bravo

Dang, did not interpret that part. As dodge says, older gen bravo drives went through some internal passage/alignment changes. I read it as swapping an entire drive In any case OP should stick with a bravo 2. Yeah, hard to find used lowers but you can still get oem

Replace Bravo2 Lower Unit W/ Bravo

Bravo 1 is designed for higher performance and speed Bravo 2 is designed for moving larger hulls at lower speeds. More for commercial applications like barges and larger displacement style hulls with single sterndrive in the 27-30 foot cabin cruiser range. You can absolutely use a bravo 1 in...

MerCruiser 3.0 TKS Overheating and activate alarm

Would guess from the overheat the flapper was melted/destroyed and the pieces have fallen to the bottom of the exhaust pipe and are blocking the idle relief port.. Pull the drive and check the exhaust bellows, exhaust passage on the drive and the exhaust pipe/gimbal housing area for flapper parts.

1988 4.3 ltr engine starter wiring

The title of this thread would suggest otherwise Pull the spark plugs out and remove the drive. Have you tried rapping on the starter itself to see if it's stuck?

Fuel System questions for Mercruiser 260 EFI Conversion

If I were installing this system I would keep the oem mechanical fuel pump and water separator. The mechanical pump will provide plenty of flow for the high pressure pump as long as it and the supply system from the tank is sound. I would only use pressure rated, braided fuel line after the...

    Ethanol treatment

No additive will erase ethanol in your fuel. If the fuel contains ethanol, that's it, no changing that. Most marine engines are okay with up to 10% ethanol gasoline. It's during extended non use that ethanol causes issues, e.g. water contamination, phase separation, etc... As long as you're...

1984 Mercruiser GM 350 engine no start, not even trying to fire

The orientation of the pump in the velvet drive changes the rotation of the transmission/output for fwd/rev The cut of the gears on the distributor/camshaft is how the rotation of the distributor shaft is maintained to be the same for lh and rh rotation engines. Ford did the same thing on...

Repair Manual for newer MerCruiser 4.5L 250hp

The only place to get an oem manual new is from mercury. You may try eBay. Thermostat is located in the usual area for a v engine. Fwd end of the engine, top area for access

1984 Mercruiser GM 350 engine no start, not even trying to fire

Yes, that is the gm sbc counter rotated (rh) engine firing order. Just came to say on most twin inboard engine set ups the standard (lh) rotation engine is the port engine. Stbd engine is counter rotated (rh). Not saying that it what you have or that you are wrong. 1984 was a while ago and...

Digital Throttle/Shift (DTS) Shift Adjustment ???

Def early for clutch issues. But if adjustment is off or other issues exist that can be cause for failure FYI clutch pictured isn't glazed, just shiny. Glazing is when the high point on the face gets "smashed" from lack of maintenance, poor lube quality, misadjustment or abuse. Abuse being...

when do you know your flappers need to be replaced

If the motor is out and you have eyes on the flappers, check the outside area that contacts the y pipe. If there is wear/metal (or plastic) exposed, e.g. the rubber is gone, replace. My best guess is if you've got easy access, just replace. Simple task just costing parts $, ymmv
