    5v heading back to the breaker point may in fact be normal voltage... That wire is there only to "sense" the ground furnished by the points. I have no info or voltages specs on the internal desing of that " amplifier box" and how it increases the voltage burst going to the main ignition...

    there are several much less expensive rec. reg on the maket that can do the same and simply need to be " fitted". check amazon this "mercury one" is $24 grounding is via mounting bolts. 6-15 amps charge cap...

    is the head warped ? was it checked out with a straight edge ? it may need just a good cleaning with a sharp blade and wire brush.

    if you do not wish to pull the cyl head from fear of damaged bolts have you considered some products like rid-lyme etc... maybe you can flush out some accumulated crud. see utubes. or work slow on the bolts ! check lower cyl head hose for clogs

    sounds bad if it did rotate 360 at one point... Racerone may be right ! broken something...? may as well pull the cyl head check the walls for bad scrapes.

    patience... my $50 turtle was locked solid ( which is why the seller did not argue about me buying an anchor !) I took off the cyl head. (gaskets are cheap anyway) soaked and soaked it took a week to free it up. in slow increments. used a 1 inch round peg and hammer to alternate...

    seafoam sure cleared up my honda snowblower hick-ups (surging) ! I was going to swap in a new carb ( from amazon) but never had to after I ran seafoam . Been good now 2-3 years :-)

    not so bad for a 50 year old engine... if it works don't fix it. maybe try some engine cleaner/decarb product to clean out some carbon deposits. Some like Seafoam some don't.. no harm in trying see utubes. Evinrude engine cleaner or Merc power tune should flush out some nasty stuff.

    check the video ... you could even loose that voltage between a nut and post .. make certain you scratch the b- post clean and shiny..also make certain you see 0.00 V when probes are shorted together. Meters can be iffy sometimes. Personnal I love my old telco analog Ks 14150 meter...
