Replacing water pump impeller for first time

Be sure to coat the impeller and housing with some silicone grease before assembly, makes turning the impeller much easier and adds some lube on initial start.

    Fuel water separator install

Of more concern to me....how is the water getting in ? Check where you buy your fuel ! Often folks are getting bad fuel when they buy it if the vendor doesn't take care of his stuff. Years back I had a water issue on a boat I had recently purchased. Water was getting into the fuel tank...

89 Yamaha 70hp two stroke opinion

I have a Mercury oil injected two stroke motor.....when starting cold, I let it crank a few times to get the oil pumping, then choke and start...the smoke tells me the system is working properly. Smoke goes away in a few minutes. You should have a quick connect on the fuel line, I unhook mine...

1962 evinrude fastwin on a 1236 aluminum john boat motor height.

A 25 hp motor would be an accident looking for a place to happen, way to much ! If an accident were to happen, you would be sued for negligence! 10 hp would be maximum if the boat is rated for that much.....

    Bottom Bunks and Rust-Oleum Paintjob

I always used any cheap carpet I could find. Leave the bottom of the bunk board open, ( not covered in carpet) this way the water is not retained and carpet and boards last longer. Cheap carpet and plain old 2x4's lasted about 5-6 years and sometimes longer...

    Broken Back Rest Fitting

Are they made of plastic ? Check around to see if there are any hobby machinists in your area, if plastic they should be fairly cheap to remake. Before I retired, the ship where I worked, often took on farmer jobs like that for the public to stay in good standing with the community. Ask around.

1962 evinrude fastwin on a 1236 aluminum john boat motor height.

With the cav plate parallel to the bottom of the boat ( disregard what hole it is in) is the cav plate above, below or right at the bottom of the hull ? Once that height is set, now you can trim to get the best ride. Do you have a fact for the engine ? Don't over rev, or you might be buying...

    1956 Johnson FD-10 15hp.

If the motor is in good shape, then it is worth fixing everything, hoses, fuel pump, carb rebuild etc. Once everything is fixed it will run for years !

best way to carry gas to the dock

Neighbor has a hand pump for filling his atv's....that thing pumps fast, can pump a 5 gallon tank in just two minutes or less. Pouring can be dangerous, these new hand pumps are fast. Using 6 gallon marine fuel tanks with a hand pump sounds like the safest way to me.

1962 evinrude fastwin on a 1236 aluminum john boat motor height.

Hopefully that will also strengthen the transom as well. That much weight and hp will weaken the transom over a short period of time. If you have any pics of the motor on the transom they might help us make sugestions.

    Bypass oil injection 2000 90ELPTO

OMC oil injection systems have had issues and I would not trust them. But the Merc units have been very reliable from my research. A friend is a retired marine mechanic, says he doesn't remember a Merc injection system failing unless abused. My 1992 injector systems all original and works...

1962 evinrude fastwin on a 1236 aluminum john boat motor height.

Is the motor a long shaft mounted on a short 15" transom ? Pics may help us figure your issues...

1962 evinrude fastwin on a 1236 aluminum john boat motor height.

Raise motor until cav plate is same height as boat hull....is cav plate level to boat hull, use long straight edge to check. How is motor trimmed ? What is compression on both cylinders ? Why a two blade prop ? You need a tach to get real readings in motor performance.

One fuel line to two engines

Time for some maintenance and repairs....all of us boat owners have had those days ! Over many years of experience I have learned to take the time, spend the money, and do it right ! Pays off in the long run. The only thing I can address here is your boat going on crooked. With all the...

    prop nut tightening

I prefer a piece of wood, but....in an emergency, I have used a rag tied into a couple knots and jamed between prop and cav plate, to get the nut tight.

    1956 Johnson FD-10 15hp.

Years back had a 56 model that was 30 hp, great motor. Mine used 24 to 1 oil ratio....if the motor runs well, why sell it ?

    Bed liner for fiberglass hull

I have witnessed a transom fail at over 25 mph, outboard still attached, and running while it sank. Hull torpedoed into the river, gone in a flash. Not pretty....
