    Lower Unit Oil Leak

Would be kinda unusual for gear oil to be above the cav plate....Have you checked the gear case oil for water intrusion or low level ?

OK a question. I have a little 1984 Evinrude 7.5 HP.. Beautiful motor.

My main motor is a long shaft and my kicker is a short shaft. The transom cutout is wide enough that the kickers clamped on the cutout same as main motor. While under way with the kicker, there is plenty of water over the cav plate to keep it pumping without issues ! If it were up on plane...

Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

When buying a car, one thing I look for is a full size spare, if it does not have provisions for one, I pass on it. I also carry a plug kit and a can of fix a flat, which I hate to use, but it gets me buy until the tire can be replaced. If I have time, I let road service take care of things...

type and color of paint of Starcraft Islander.

Are you creating a show piece or just making you boat look good ? That decision and a bunch of money is the difference in the kind of paint you use.

Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

Would never travel without a spare, not worth the risk ! I have roadside repair on my insurance, 20 bucks a year and on the one time I needed it, the service company offered a rush for an extra 55 bucks, which I used and the insurance paid the extra for the rush job. Even at almost 76, I can...

    Tiny boat performance help

You just proved to yourself that it needs weight is needed forward. The small hull is having difficulty getting up on plane due to the small area. Bigger boat or weight forward to balance that heavy motor. You would provably be just as fast or faster with a 10' Jon boat as the bigger hull will...

Old 4hp Evinrude takes a nap

How thorough was the carb job ....factory rebuild kit, each and every small passage cleaned with a wire, new gaskets etc ?? Sounds more like overheat, but a sloppy carb clean could be an issue.

    Been a little cold.

Grandkids are a big plus, but moving into 95-100 degree weather does not sound like fun either. As I get older, I hate the cold as does my body, but battling extreme heat is not much better. Here in Ohio, we had the worst winter in quite a few years, but it appears to be an early...

How to prevent jack from seizing up? Gets submerged every launch

If your going thru that many jacks, I would invest in a quick removal jack to take off and throw in your trunk...especially in saltwater !

I do that at the end if each season, fill with grease and gear oil then crank the you know what out if it, all the way up and down for its winter storage. Come spring it is ready to go.

How to prevent jack from seizing up? Gets submerged every launch

Salt water is your enemy....if your going that deep, then your rear axle/ rotors/ drums are also getting salt in them. Can't imagine backing in that far, but I have saw some really bad ramps so it probably happens. My jack has a plastic cap on top that pops off so grease or heavy gear lube can...

Need trailer roller arm mount thing

They are support arms for rollers, they are normally galvanized as aluminum would not be strong enough. There are a number of trailer supply stores that should carry some version of these. One is called E Trailer and there are numerous others. I don't know how to add links, but if you do a...

    I HATE AUTOMATIC BILGE PUMPS!

If your boat is leaking bad enough that it will sink in 20 minutes, it has problems other than a faulty bilge pump ! Years back I did the ole " forgot to put in the drain plug" and found the boat about half sunk after a long 15 minute walk from a busy parking lot. By all he time I got the plug...

    Boat to trailer latches

I took a chance and ordered one while on sale. I went with the Boat2Trailer unit....20 bucks off and free shipping. Bow curve could be an issue, but I don't think it will. Retired toolmaker here with access to a full machine shop if needed.

    Boat to trailer latches

Smart thinking....if more people would look closely at their loading and unloading practises, things would move far more quickly at the ramps. I am one that goes overboard in making my tow vehicle, trailer, and boat as user friendly as possible, so I am quick to get in and out. My current...
