    Agreed. NASCAR runs 830 CFM annual discharge Holley's. However their motors are spinning 9000 RPM I'm running a HP830 on my 468 that sees 5500 For a stock 350, 377, or 383, 650-715 CFM would be the carb size recommendation

    welcome aboard you could be over-proped, could be other factors are you trimming all the way down (in) for the holeshot? does your prop allow the boat to get all the way up to 5000 RPM? have you moved the beer cooler to the bow? have you tried with your trim tabs down slightly?

    because 3 months has past from July to now and you could be getting moisture in your tank from summer humidity or you could have had enough gunk in the fuel system plug up the carb because 3 months has past and you added fresh fuel which could have had high moisture and crud in it which plugged...

    the rev limiter is set at 5200 or so at what RPM are you getting the backfiring thru the carb? as stated above, most likely a lean sneeze. what were the compression numbers? what is the fuel pressure to the carb/ what were the results of checking the fuel filter contents?

    easiest if you are swapping complete long-tail assemblies unbolt the yamaha drive, pull the motor and remove the yamaha transom shield. remove yamaha wiring and controls Install mercruiser wiring and controls, bolt in the mercruiser transom shield, a mercruiser motor and the mercruiser drive.

    remember, overheat is a lack of cooling water flow could be the glycol side, could be the raw water side measure the pump output. if the pump is bad, spend the $150 on a new pump if you ever lost an impeller blade, look for it.

    you have blow-out between cylinders. you lost clamp force along the way. my guess, the heads were off once prior and someone did not torque correctly, or the motor was overheated.

    yes, even if you so much as turned the mount nuts at all you have to pull the drive and align. you are supposed to check alignment every year.
