HP is generally how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you move the wall when you hit it.
In the marine world, one must know the prop curve as well as the engine torque curve. been that way since the propeller was first turned by men with a manual crank. they need to match
Chris, if you look at post #1 in the sig, one of the first few links covered me swapping cams. in there is the mercruiser cam specs.
regarding the 383 vs the 350. the 383 will have much more torque than the high RPM 350. your friend and his wife would need to have different impeller trims...
I agree that stock Marine, RV and Truck cams are normally the same. in many cases identical part numbers
however, there can be improvements in low and mid-range torque. this is usually done by lift and lobe profile. to make the most of any cam change, you much match intake runner / plenum...
generally. look at the video FT posted. there normally is a tang used as retention as well on the packard/delphi pins. this should be depressed to get the pin out. normally from the pin side with a small pick or heavy stick pin.
with the tang depressed, you can then pull the pin and wire...
depends.
on my boat the stock/original wiper was a custom Bosche marine only wiper. I used the rear wiper blade and holder from wallyworld and used a bolt to hold it to the arm
yes...... both work for the stringer to transom joint
for the stringer to hull, I put a line of PL to hold the stringers up a bit and a few days later, used a masons bag to pipe the PB in and then threw away the masons bag because I wasnt going to clean it. I made the fillets with a plastic spoon
get a set of SBC felpro valve cover gaskets from your local auto parts store. if skippy behind the counter asks year, make, model you know the guy doesnt know anything about parts (why I suggested NAPA)
if he is a true parts guy, he will ask perimeter or center
If only skippy is available...
Delphi / Packard connector. Pins available at most auto parts stores they should have pins for the 280 series
unclip the purple retainer from the back of the backshell to pull the pin/wire out. crimp new pin. re-install
I wouldnt trust the gasket if its 2" shorter. that would indicate it probably sat on a shelf in a hot warehouse and shrunk.
I would hit your local NAPA parts store and get gaskets for a center mount SBC
Note, there is only perimeter mount and center mount.
I'm one of the Unique Individuals that actually likes the smell of 2-stroke exhaust.
However the others are right, if you want to get rid of the exhaust smell you may have to move to a four stroke
pull the connector apart. get as many pics as you can. post them here. a few of us have experience making harnesses and have connectors, pins, sockets and tools so we should be able to identify what you need
my guess its a dephi connector if so, then your local auto parts store may have pins.
to "retrofit a briggs and stratton" would cost you as much as it would for parts to do it right
if the rings are rusted from sitting under water, that is one issue
if the rings are stuck from sitting, that is another issue
that is some serious corrosion
my guess:
someone has something wired wrong in the boat
its a salt water boat
or someone swapped the transom wood with pressure treated.
while on the trailer and idling, your cooling water and a bit of exhaust is coming out of the idle relief ports on the transom.
this is as designed
until the engine RPMs get up high enough to push the water and exhaust out the prop (overcoming the head pressure of the water level). after...
