Swap carby on Mercruiser 1986 inline 6 to holley carby

If you want more speed, you need much more than a carb change. you need enough motor to jump up in torque significantly enough to spin a higher pitch prop. to spin the inline 6 motor faster than 4200 RPM requires pulling the motor apart and building it to spin faster (balance the rotating...

Do you know the OEM Prop size for a 05 Bayliner 265 with 5.0NA 220hp Carb engine.

first, check your tach second, check your fuel system bet you are running out of fuel at the top end causing your low WOT third, you cant go from the 15 pitch prop you have to a 17 pitch and gain speed.

    Tachometer reading half RPMs?

does this help. based on your motor, your tach switches should be on, on, off if you have a 2-lead sensor, or off, on, off if you have a 3 lead sensor. my guess is either switch 2 or 3 is in the wrong position

first, the soft spots are from the wood rotting from underneath (wet stringers, transom and foam). not from your carpet boats only last about 15 years, yours is 33 years old prior to worrying about carpet, you have a hull restoration to do.
