I think a Sheetrock screw would pose a greater Threat, as once it get a bite it is going forward. As for metal shavings, you are removing it to clear out Gum, Varnish, and Dirt, so a few Metal Shavings are likely larger than any of the Dirt in there. That Crank Seal looks nice and dry

The V4 does have 6 Seals(#16) that are on the Crank Shaft, these are used to seal each Individual Crankcase from each other, and in the Case or Cylinders #1 and #4, isolate their Crankcases from the Crankshaft Bearings and Seals. So the...

Direct Charge, a variation of the Crossflow, with a different Deflector Shape which may affect how it scavenges the Cylinder. It also allows for a lighter Piston with less of a Heat Sink on the Crown

If it's #1 that is the Problem, try to get a look at the Top of the Block, for Oil. I am mentioning this cause if the Upper Crankshaft Seal is worn, Oil can get out, more important though, is that Air can get in, leaning the Top Cylinder.

A Service Shop, certainly will not use Noncompliance Parts, at least any Competent and Ethical Shop. As for Do-it-Yourselfers... Insurance Companies can and will deny Claims, including Liability if a non USCG certified Part, caused a Problem. And they are pretty good at finding things like that...

Keep in Mind, that we don't have your Motor in front of Us, and are going by the Symptoms and Descriptions you provide. What do the Plugs look like after running? Looking at the one Pic, the part that secures the Part you adjust the Cable Length with(Trunnion), looks like it signs of...

Some people are always screaming about Red Tape, how it slows things down, and adds Expense, but those Rules and Regs are the Result of Boneheads who use whatever they think will Work, ignoring Common Sense if it doesn't match their Thought Process. Same goes for those who insist that there is...
