    Model Tag - Protection

Maybe I'll take the tag off before it falls off and put it in an envelope inside the owners manual. . I took a picture of it. So, yes, I could print it and keep it on the boat in with my other paperwork. .

    Model Tag - Protection

I see so many threads where someone can't figure out the year of their Johnson because the model and serial number tag is missing. While shopping for a motor, two I went to look at were missing the tag. . I just bought me a Johnson, and it still has the tag. It's not a riveted metal tag, it...

Google says: "On a Johnson/Evinrude outboard, a 5-wire harness featuring green, blue, red, white, and black wires corresponds to your Power Trim/Tilt System inside the control handle." . I understand the green red and blue being for trim. I just don't see what the black wire and wire is for. ...

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

I'm off to do a forum search. I know the big red plugs go together. But for the smaller plug there is 5 wires. Blue, Green, and Red - all with a white stripe. I'm thinking those are for the Trim. But what are the white and black wires for? The black wire has a white or grey stripe, and the white...

I go back to AutoZone to return it with my newfound knowledge that some compression testers are bunk. I'm telling the young fella this. He wasn't interested. 😊

Yes, I should have done a compression test before buying, but then again, my cheapo tester may have influenced my decision to purchase. But because it start right up cold and ran so nice and was so clean in appearance, I went for it - and the price was good.

Argh!!! All the anxiety because of a stupid cheap faulty compression tester. I borrowed a compression tester from AutoZone and did a cold dry test. It's about 62 degrees out, we are at 650 elevation. I got a whole lot better numbers. . All around 120psi. 120, 119, 121, and 126 PSI

I have the cheapo tester like in this video. I'm going to do the AutoZone loan a tool thing they have and see if they have a better tester and I get better results. I'll post back what I get. . Video:

Yeah, it was in nice cosmetic condition - especially compared to the others I looked at - and it started right up and ran pleasantly. . I'm going to do the 'loan a tool' thing from the autoparts store for a compression tester. I'll likely not get to it until this weekend. I'll post back what the results are.
