Looking for my first ski boat

A stern drive is not usually a good choice or a ski boat. They are 1100 pounds or so, causing the boat to put out a larger wake. An OB will be less than half that weight, have plenty of power and produce a smaller wake. Anyone who cuts across the wake on skis will appreciate the smaller wake.

Looking for my first ski boat

I think you want an OB powered boat 18' or under, with a 125HP or larger motor. You want a boat that puts out a minimum wake, so a flatter stern area is better for that. I would not get hung up about the amount of wood in the boat. It is more about condition and design. Not all boats...

    Over Voltage Condition

I expect all you can do is clean up the contacts and see if that helps. Voltmeters like clocks need to be accurate and reliable. Your voltmeter is likely reliable, so you can figure out how low it reads and add that voltage on in your mind.

    J115PLSOR cylinder bank temp difference

The service manual for my motor says grease on the orings, silicone around the water ports, when installing the cylinder head.

    J115PLSOR cylinder bank temp difference

Compression leaking to the water jacket will cause overheat. You might check the head for warpage as well.

    J115PLSOR cylinder bank temp difference

In your picture, the oring looks stretched and there is no silicone around the water ports. Did you clean the remnants of it? Are the Orings correct for the engine?

    J115PLSOR cylinder bank temp difference

I have a '98 60* 150HPV6 Johnny. Although I have never measured the water pressure at the thermostats, the block water pressure is 35PSI at cruise. Water pressure is measured at one of the plugs on the port cylinder head. The thermostat springs are pretty strong and hold the thermostats in...

    850 Wiring

Often the quick disconnect on those engines goes bad. If you wanted to rewire it like OEM, you would need a suitable waterproof plug with two battery cables and about 7 other wires, that fit or almost fit the quick disconnector hole in the lower cowling. The other choice would be to use marine...

Thinking about selling my 90hp 1986 Mercury inline 6

The early electronic FI systems on cars, circa 1980s, were pretty simple. They had a lookup table indexed by throttle position, air temp, RPM etc. The value in the look up table was a time interval to hold the injectors open for the correct amount of fuel. There was also an injector open...

Thinking about selling my 90hp 1986 Mercury inline 6

Gee, I always found that boys will be boys and carbs will be carbs. Seriously, keep your fuel fresh, drain or run 'em dry when layup time and they should not need any work for a decade or more. Leave fuel in them or use old fuel and you will have issues. Just my experience.

How to remove pressed prop hubs before recycling

Gee, prop shops press the hubs on and off all the time. Why not try a press?

Impeller stuck on drive rod, got hot and melted the impeller a little.

Actually, after thinking about it some, I needed to split the brass hub on an alum prop that was seized to the propshaft splines. To do that I had to cut off the prop blades and the rubber hub. Then I split the brass hub with a cold chistle. I never had an impeller seize on me, but I think...

I prefer the decals on my '77 Merc 1500.

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

Gee, to be clear. You do not need to remove the pin on the upper shift shaft. I recommended you lift up on the upper shift shaft to verify the upper and lower shift shafts separate. It is very likely that the issue is the driveshaft corroded into the crankshaft.

Impeller stuck on drive rod, got hot and melted the impeller a little.

It seems to me that I needed to split a waterpump with a cold chistle, one time. The insert is either brass or fiber, so it was not too tough.

    Over Voltage Condition

Normally overvoltage would be caused by a low back voltage to the alternator. You might check for clean connections on the wiring from battery to alternator, and wiring harness to alternator.

What are these on + terminal?

You look to have 2 inline fuse holders and a circuit breaker (rusty). Not sure I understand the question

There should be other sources. Search on the OEM model number. Sierra used to make one. Surplus unlimited is another place to check.

1984 35hp Lower Unit Removal Trouble

If you look under the lower carb you should see the top of the upper shift shaft. It should come up, if the shift shaft coupler is not seized. You may need to remove the shift cable to pull the upper shift shaft up to prove it is not the shift shaft coupler. Sometimes the driveshaft rusts...
