    Fuel system issues

Gee an 1-1/4 ID copper pipe or thereabouts should fit. It is not important to get it exactly right, as I think the one-way valve is an acute problem. You do not have much pitch on the filler tube, that with a sticky one-way valve can restrict the fuel flow I would think. Is that one-way valve...

    Mercruiser exhaust system gaskets.

Have you trued up the manifold to elbow joint? Rust and warped joints can cause all sorts of leaking, even with good gaskets. A good way to true it up is to use emery cloth on a piece of glass, and "sand" the joints in a figure 8 movement.

    Optimax 115 Overheat

Check your head bolts for proper torque. If they are loose, exhaust gasses can leak into the cooling jacket and cause overheat.

    RE: LOW FUEL PRESSURE?

Yellow fuel is not always bad. Some gas used to be dyed. Anyone remember blue SUNOCO? Put an oz of 2 cycle oil into the gasoline. It will color the gasoline and alcohol, but not the water. If it is separating, you should see it. Check the bottom of the fuel tank for water.

    Fuel system issues

Gee, a piece of copper or PVC plumbing pipe can easily substitute for the one way valve, for testing purposes. If that doesn't fix it, temporarily disconnect the charcoal canister inlet to take that out of the equation. Is the fuel tank vent clear?

    What is this part?

Most boats will ventilate before the motor is trimmed beyond the transom brackets. You could check yours for this. Load her normally. Cruise straight at a usual speed. Trim up until the prop ventilates. Kill the motor and see how far she is trimmed up.

    Clicking sound evinrude

Sometimes fuel pumps click, however, they are not real loud. Did you remove the spark plugs and rotate the engine with a wrench and feel/listen for the click? You might remove the cowl and start her in a barrel to minimize exhaust noise. Maybe you can isolate the click to a particular part...

    Fuel system issues

Take out the one-way valve in the filler tube and see if it works better.

    What is this part?

Yes, that is the trim limit switch. A lot of them are broken by this point and need to be bypassed to use the SPDT PTT switch on the newer controls, vs the original 3 button control panel.

    1989 J225TLCED: retrofit 1996-2001 90 deg looper Al carbs?

The service manual is very careful to explain how to install the bowl and other screws into the plastic carb bodies, so they do not strip. The procedure is to put the screw into the hole and then turn it CCW until the screw thread matches the existing plastic thread. This avoids stripping...

    Johnson 150 gearcase pressure testing

Gee, what seals did you replace? Unlike Merc's driveshaft seals, Johnnyrude gearcase seals have nothing to do with the waterpump.

Mercury 850 85hp. Good engine or stay away?

Mark, the 115HP IL6 was indeed an 850 with another carb and two more cylinders, labrinth seal and reed valves. The Mercs were modular in that way. CMC used to make PTT systems for larger HP motors. They may not be the only ones.

West Marine files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

I do not think the PCA Premium has the anti-slime ingredient. I also tried Micron which did not work as well.

West Marine files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

I hardly ever shopped in WM since I retired. When I was working there was one near work, for lunchtime shopping. Now, I order from Amazon and others, unless I need to "touch" the item first to see if it works. They also used to have good in-store sales on fishing gear. That seemed to have...

Mercury 850 85hp. Good engine or stay away?

Those motors when tilted, leaked fuel out of the carb throats. The fuel sat in the lower cowling fuel drain "pan" until the motor was tilted down and then leaked into the water. Most of the time, you needed to reprime. The PTT system on the 50HP motor is a bit different than the one original...

    1989 J225TLCED: retrofit 1996-2001 90 deg looper Al carbs?

What is wrong with the plastic carbs? Other than replacing the carb bowls once, I have had no issue with the ones on my '98 Johnny 150HPV6.

Mercury 850 85hp. Good engine or stay away?

The original PTT control was a rectangular panel with three push buttons. The middle button trimmed the motor up. Pushing the top and middle buttons together, tilted the motor up. The lower button tilted (or trimmed) the motor down. The original PTT unit could trim the motor under full...

    extremely high idle suddenly

I had the throttle stick in my '98 Johnny. The spring which closed the throttle had gotten dirty and stuck the throttle open. You might check for such a thing.

    Fish finder/bottom map

The size and quality of the screen drives most of the cost of the FF units. You will want the largest display you can afford. The good news is that a lot of FF become discontinued (replaced by newer models), and have large discounts on them. Garmin usually has built-in maps. You might see if...
