2005 115 Johnson PLSOR dies off idle

Previous one was a lousy turn of a phrase. Yes, replaced bowls last December or so. Did carb kit at the same time. New jets came with the kit, IIRC.

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR dies off idle

I believe, yes. Those came as a part of carb kit, IIRC.

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR dies off idle

No, ran normal before. No, replaced for that reason. How do I clean those?

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR dies off idle

Thermostats/springs are new. It's been sitting for 5 hours now; just tried again, same thing.

    Too much smoke

Check if your carb is flooding. Had the same problem of excessive smoke/fuel consumption; fixing stuck float cured it.

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR dies off idle

More trouble with the project. Took it out again. After about 15 minute WOT run and maybe 30 minutes of fishing, start again. Starts easily, but if I give it gas, dies quickly. Or may die while idling for no obvious reason; almost feels like it is fuel starved. Pumping the primer bulb does not...

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR carb floods for no apparent reason

True, but it wouldn't go firm until I "fixed" the float issue.

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR carb floods for no apparent reason

Nope, and it seems like it got stuck while the motor was running, so I am not sure what to think. I have a suspicion that a good whack would have freed the float, but I really don't want to be sorting those things out on the water.

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR carb floods for no apparent reason

Have not noticed anything wrong with any of those; replaced late last year and everything seemed about right. Snagging on the gasket might be an issue.

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR carb floods for no apparent reason

Sorry if it came across as rude; wasn't meant as a challenge. This seems to be cropping up in one carb at a time, so I doubt it is the primer. If you look down carb throat and squeeze the bulb, there is a small gas fountain. Has to be needle/float sticking, but I am not understanding why and why...

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR carb floods for no apparent reason

Ummm... why? First, it is a one-carb problem. Second, the lever is already pointing as manual specifies for Run position.

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR carb floods for no apparent reason

Tried the project on the water. After about 10 minutes of around idle RPM, give it some gas, motor sputters and dies, strong gas smell, primer bulb limp. Pop airbox, pump primer - there is a gas fountain in the throat of starboard top carb. Pull the carb, remove the float/needle - everything...

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR: how hot is too hot, and how much clunk is too much?

About 3 weeks old. :) Probably should get the thermometer, run and monitor it for a while and see where it levels off. Looks like I am in range or close, though. I assumed it would be hotter at WOT than at idle, but, duh, it's pumping a lot more water through at WOT. Should have thought of it...

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR: how hot is too hot, and how much clunk is too much?

What's my target temperature? I can tell it is above 140F, probably quite a bit above, but what bothers me is that it gets there in two minutes. Thanks!

2005 115 Johnson PLSOR: how hot is too hot, and how much clunk is too much?

More (small) troubles with rebuild project. The shifter cable was pretty frayed (jacket was literally coming apart); had trouble finding neutral. Replaced, shifts nicely now, but the CLUNK! when clutch engages seems louder than it was. RPMs are around 600-700 (same as before). I realize after...

2005 Johnson 115 minor annoyance this time

That works fine on a trailer, but I can't hear trim motor over the engine on the water.

2005 Johnson 115 minor annoyance this time

Heh, that would explain why manual is silent on the subject..

2005 Johnson 115 minor annoyance this time

When I trim the engine in, engine comes to a stop, but the trim motor keeps running until I release the button. Faulty switch? Where do I look for it? Come to think about it, the boat did not come with a trim angle gauge. Is there a way to hook up an aftermarket one? I suspect the sender is...

2005 Johnson 115 with low compression: noob seeking wisdom

MMVZ 3.115 Minsk. But that was an early 80s motorcycle I was playing with in high school. Previous 2 stroke outboard was a 15 hp Mercury (on a different boat), not a drop of oil. Looks like I found my problem, though, you were right about the carb. Scum is down to believable level, a lot less...

2005 Johnson 115 with low compression: noob seeking wisdom

That much I know, but back in my days they didn't have reeds. :) My previous 2 stroke outboard did not make this kind of mess, either.
