Hard to get into neutral after reverse

I hope you are testing with boat in water. It needs resistance to slow down prop.

    Mercruiser exhaust systems.

I found the laminated fiber / ss gaskets years ago (what I have been trying to find again) , but I can't find them. I'd never follow anyone's advise to only using a fiber gasket to seal open manifolds/risers as a block off. There is no backbone! I investigated and discovered that Barrs MFG...

THX!!!! I admit I am confused! Except this boat all of my previous MCs were raw water cooled.

Shouldn't these Block off gaskets have metal in the middle for support. I have examine several gaskets advertised but none describe metal sandwiched by 2 fiber gaskets. I have also seen MC exhaust manifolds that were indeed closed or blocked off (cast that way) where they connect to risers. Mine...

    Need this part #

Thanks to all! The gasket(s) and ss plate (very thin) are fused together as one gasket. I am guessing that the metal part is about 35 thousands thickness. Motors are 5.7 Chevy made into strokers. I am guessing that former owner used an open cooling exhaust manifold and made it a closed cooling...

    Need this part #

My boat has been retro-ed to closed cooled MC V8s. However, I had to tear up exhaust manifold/riser gaskets to remove motors in order to replace a rotten transom. The riser gaskets were made out of a dark gray solid fiber (no passageways) that sandwiched a flat piece of SS (maybe 30-45 thousands...

WATER CAME DRIPPING OUT. Is it time to donate it?

You just "ate" 500+ bucks of waste disposal fees. I'd be more concerned with a rotten transom or stringers or deck, especially transom.

    Merc 7.4l Oil pressure switches

There maybe and most likely be an impedance issue with any sender/gauge. With switches, not so much. My boat's former owner disconnected oil pressure and temperature switches and only left senders. DUMB! Who wouldn't want an alarm screaming at them if something went bad or was about to go bad?

    Mercruiser exhaust systems.

So what are the steel plates called that allow users to insert between manifolds and elbows (I call risers)?. I have been using a SS sandwich with fiber to block off water passages. They are aftermarket from Sierra and expensive. I have some 1/8" ss flat stock that I thought about fabricating...

Replacement motor going in ,need opinions

And, adding "spacers" may cause lack of clearance between elbows and engine hatches. If they are higher than carb/breather(flame arrestor) , then there is a chance hatches will not close. I have about 1" clearance between my flame arrestors and hatches w/o spacers. Some people like installing...

    1998 3.0 limited RPM

have friend to move throttle while you examine carb and its linkage. I had a defective tac that was 500 rpms off compared to meter at motor. I always suspected corrosion. If my memory serves me correctly, boat trimmed correctly is supposed to get 4200 -4400 rps. I could live with 4600!

Where does the Mercruiser DTS system gets it power from?

Not real sure about DTS. 13.8 sounds good! but I believe lots of resistance in wire going to your helm gauge. I am guessing 15-20' span? I've seen corrosion cause voltage drop too. Most of the gauge wiring is small gauge and may not be tinned or marine. I am having headaches too. Run test wire...

Replacement motor going in ,need opinions

If fresh water boat, just rebuild it. Salt water... It depends on how much total it will cost for upgrade? Everything mentioned can be done. Electric fuel pumps for carburated motors must have a special oil sender cutoff switch to consider. Use marine electric fuel pump too. I assume newer...

    Maybe gimbal bearing?

1987? You may also have rotten wood, lots of rotten wood. Rot may cause sagging metal and binding. Trust me! If motor is out, start pounding transom and stringer areas.

    Mercruiser 6.2L Bravo 3 I/O alignment problems

Good video. I have misaligned one or two in my life time and straightened just like video shows..

    Exhaust Bellows

The exhaust bellows are a pain and poor design. I thought about drilling a tapping the transom side and the OD side with a couple of ss cap screws to provide a "bump" to restrict ss clamps from letting loose and sliding. But so far, mine have held.
