Have you tried jumping starter directly and with another battery/cable?

    Strange starter issue.

starter fails to 100 % engage ring gear on flywheel due to poor DC connection or weak battery or bad solenoid/Bendix (starter teeth). I replaced starter, ring gear and circuit breaker due to corrosion inside helm motor switch circuit breaker causing sh--- to fail.. Expensive learning.....

Oil leak near starter? What's behind starter?

10 years old? How much a leak vs cost and personal satisfaction in repairing it. Pray it is valve cover gasket because they are MUCH easier to fix. Years ago there was a product that would soak up oil in bilge. Now, I don't know... 409 works real well. Good luck.

    Strange starter issue.

Pray that you have a worn or bad starter bendex and NOT and bad ring gear.

What is a preferred method for removal of the gimbal bearing (hummer vs puller)?

Be sure to go back with correct bearing and correct installation procedure . My Bravo transom plates do NOT have grease fittings, at least I have not been able to find them. I am not sure that Bravos had the option. Former owner mixed and matched. Therefore, I have to use sealed bearings. My...

Alpha One Gen II loosing oil

On my Bravos, #3 had a large O ring assembly in its bottom that was leaking but it's leaking was concealed by motor. It wasn't until I pulled motors that I saw and felt leak.

    Motor Knock

U sure transom is not rotten???? Who dropped it? How old is boat? Wood or synthetic transom core? Why didn't mechanics examine or call u to examine damaged transom assembly(s) and CORROSION? If stringer damaged, perhaps alignment is out as well??? Sounds like a salt water stored boat due t...

Something is wrong with "Home made special tools"

If my memory servers me correctly, u will need a good slide hammer with claws that fit inside gimbal bearing if your want to pull gimbal bearing. I assume bearing is "rough???" Google "Mercruiser outdrive removal tools" may help. Good luck! I also believe there is a turnbuckle type tool that...

Water Pump Question - Alpha 1 w/Closed Cooling

If motor has been used extensively in saltwater, I have been told that internal rust may cause an issue with clogging heat exchangers. I have 2 crank pumps on Bravos. They work great, so far. But, I suspect that for Alphas, you'd have to replumb water input.

    Possibly seized motor?

Years ago, I learned the hard way not to rely on that bolt to turn engine, unless plugs are out (no compression) and then I'd pray.

    Possibly seized motor?

I'd use a special oil pump primer distributor tool and drill to pressurize or force oil to journals and pushrods, before I would do anything. Make sure starter isn't froze up and you have GOOD WIRING CONNECTIONS and strong BATTERY.

No water out transom or exhaust

I suspect something malfunctioning in water pickup. However, perhaps this has been discussed, but is boat salt water used/stored? It is my understanding that fresh water boat risers and exhaust manifolds don't clog up with rusts as frequent as salt water ones do. I have replaced several salt...

Been there with impeller toast, while paying attention to complaining wife and not boat/OD.

    double check compression!!!

Why an increase in engine horsepower will hurt your ‘holeshot’, acceleration and midrange cruising.

Good explanation!!! And, most people do not factor in safety with too much HP than the boat can handle. I have personally witnessed careless show-off captains submarining in dangerous seas.

    Engine failure?

BT is correct. Too hot. Sounds like a fresh water boat. How old? I suspect old or worn out impeller and maybe clogged risers or you sucked a plastic bag around water pickup. I did that once and temp went through the roof! I now have audio alarms in addition to gauges . Pull plugs and pray no...
