Double lip/extended lip seal - which way does it install??

If you want normal type seals you can get them at any place that sells bearings and other engineering stuff . They are a standard size . Same for most seals on most things....and they are usually cheaper. πŸ™‚

Double lip/extended lip seal - which way does it install??

Yeah , if it was the 1st time you'd seen such a seal you may well wonder which way is best . The only places I have seen such a seal is on an outboard prop shaft and a washing machine gearbox seal , Im sure there are other places where you have a different liquid on each side of a seal ....just...

Double lip/extended lip seal - which way does it install??

It does have a metal side...it has to , it forms the body of the seal and without it the seal would be a floppy bit of rubber . The "metal side" ( in this instance ....sometimes you can actually see the metal insert ....which would not be good in salt water ).... has a layer of rubber over it ...

    Mercury classic 40hp two stroke

Sounds like an interesting motor . Seems a few motors from that era had a lot of cylinders for what is not a large motor , Honda's 6 cylinder 125cc and 250cc gp bikes and Ferrari 1.5 and 2.5L V12's spring to mind .πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Doesnt have to be tires , something that can be slid under the axle is good but if your only lowering the boat down and not sliding it around on the floor even some layers of cardboard will do ....just enough to stop the hull from crunching on the floor .πŸ™‚

Switching trailers in my garage with DIY lift

Last time I did this ...tied stern to a tree and drag trailer out from underneath ( I landed it on some old tires ) and then line up new trailer and winch trailer back under boat . You could substitute the tree with something in the shed , perhaps use gantry to take some weight off the rear (...
